REINTRODUCTION TO YOUR ROLE

_Our Growth Plan

_______________________________

By the end of 2009, we will have a minimum of 100,000 Subscribers, 20% of whom are active Members. You can help us to achieve this goal. Help us build an interactive, international networking nation. Here's how:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Forward this Newsletter to everyone on your opt-in subscriber list, or to your email list, with a request that they subscribe (it's free), and that they also get the Daily RSS or Daily Email feed, too. All of these things are explained in the TNNW OMNIGADGET on every blog page. Or, visit the OMNIGADGET in its natural habitat at http://thetnnwomnigadget.blogspot.com/ . You can also go to the little envelope-shaped icon at the foot of every newsletter post at http://thenationalnetworkerweblog.blogspot.com/ , and send a copy of the entire newsletter automatically, via instant email, to up to ten of your friends in one bulk email. Efficient, eh?

2. Talk us up (and call us by name -- THE NATIONAL NETWORKER) in your various Linked In and other groups, as well as on Mixx, Digg, Buzz, Technorati, Delicious, FaceBook, Zimbio, Twitter, StumbleUpon...and the lot of 'em.

3. Participate in OPERATION BRUTE FORCE. You're curious, aren't you? Well, all this requires is that you spend a few idle moments during the course of your hectic day, and search for THE NATIONAL NETWORKER on Google or any other search engines, find our first listing, and just click on it to visit us. The more you do this, the better the effect on our SEO.

4. Place our blidget on your blogs, websites, newsletters, email blasts and refrigerator doors. You can get this blidget (in a choice of two contemporary and ergonomically optimized designs!) from http://thenationalnetworkerweblog.blogspot.com/ . It is a potent SEO and traffic magnet, by the way.

5. Comment on our articles, and leave a backlink to your website or blog at the end of your comment posting. This not only helps inspire us, and excites our readers...it creates a new stream of traffic back to you! You can do something that is absolutely self-serving and mercenary, and still feel good about it. Every time you comment, you can incorporate a back link to your blog, website or newsletter. You have the opportunity to post your name. You build your brand, your traffic and your search engine position every single time that you do this! Help yourself to some high-octane SEO.
_______________________________________________
Again: forward this Newsletter to everyone on your email optin-lists; write about us in your blogs, websites, and in your various networking groups and online forums. The bigger we get, the more that we have to offer ever Subscriber and every Member. Do this constantly, persistently and with enthusiasm. Repetition is a powerful tool for subscription growth. As we grow, so do your possibilities, your network, and your financial security.
---------------------------------------
As always, thank you.

POWER THOUGHT OF THE WEEK: Networking Power Self-Assessment, Part 2

Power Thought of the Week with Patricia Parham, Ph.D.

Trust

Networks are crucial components of relationship capital. A large part of the benefit that comes from being integral in a social network is the level of familiarity, intimacy and trust that develops. Trust leads to an increased flow of information and knowledge. Information is power, expert power. What have you done to establish trusting relationships in your network? What steps could you take to deepen that trust? When you have information power, wield it with integrity. Be trustworthy.

THE POLITICAL FRONT: Musical Chairs, Buck Passing and Paralysis

The Political Front with Douglas Castle

Dear Readers:

Firstly, just a bit of personal philosophy from my personal blog, DOUGLAS CASTLE. Consider this merely a preamble, not unlike an appetizer prior to The Last Supper:

When we give up our independence to dream our dreams, to think our thoughts, to take direct action, toepreneurial sub-economy, the national networker, TNNW community, TNNW membership protest and defend ourselves and, essentially, give these powers to large faceless companies, elected officials or civil servants reporting to vastly powerful govenerments, we are not gaining freedon by any measure.

We are routinely disempowering ourselves and becoming weaker and increasingly dependent upon the generosity and competence of others. Look around you -- do you really want to give the people you see, and a whole host of unseen clerks, lackeys and unmotivated "clock punchers" the power over your future? Why did we choose, as a society, to do this? Was it growing laziness? A distrust of ourselves and of many of our fellow Human Beings? A loss of incentives for innovation, originality and responsibility.

Nowadays, everything that you read, from nutritional supplement labels to emails from corporations, is laden with disclaimers of responsibility and liability. We have become a society that runs from responsibility because of our obsession with scapegoating instead of problem-solving.

Very few of today's Humans have the strength of character, the conviction, the passion, and the love of sacred priciples to risk their uneventful flatline lives for anything or anyone...especially at the cost of ridicule, prosecution and crucifixion. If the best of us are discouraged or punished or exiled, what part of us remains? A people afraid of the responsibilities of freedom must be prepared to forego all of its benefits.
####

We, as Humans, and especially as members of the G-8 Group of Nations, have become encultured, and hypnotized into a a systematic handing over of our self-determination to unidentified, conflict-laden strangers. We now have become fully-institutionalized, and we work to serve the monsterous things that we have created to serve us! (sounds like irony, eh?)

We live in dependence upon them and in constant fear of them and the awesome unchecked power which we have, ourselves, given them. We have let our entrepreneurial muscles, our individual uniqueness, and our drive to be successful on our own terms atrophy. We are only ambitious within the narrowest confines of conformity, and we consistently point the finger of blame at the very system that we have allowed to perpetuate itself like a growing cancer...w3e have, in our "institutionalization," saved some money, time and effort by appointing a reckless adolescent with a blood alcohol of 20% and a set car keys waiting outside to be our chauffeur.

During the recent Bush administration, more civil, constitutional and basic Human rights were surrendered to the government that in all of the years of history which preceded it. We let our rights, our legal arsenal for remedies, defense and redress be taken from us without protest because we were so afraid of terrorism that we forgot what terrorism involves.

In a tragic irony, the American Public said (in many a poll published in many a popular magazine), "We will give away anything, any of our rights and freedoms, that it may take to be safe from terrorism." But we actually gave our lunch money to the biggest bully in the class so that he would "protect us" from other bullies. And we did it in an act of immediate and unconditional surrender...not realizing that no one can absolutely assure us safety from terrorism -- from rogue nations, from crazies within our own civilian ranks, and from power-mongering politicians and corporate leaders -- persons who view us as less than cattle to be herded and slaughtered, or as sheep to be fleeced. That chapter has come to an end, and the bully to whom we gave our lunch money turned out to be incapable of keeping us "safe" (think about Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans).

The sad reality is that the game (and it is one) of politics is about seizing power while abdicating responsibility. The game is always the same: we try to find someone to save us and to serve us, and that someone ultimately sells us out and rules over us. Big government. Big Corporations. Big Institutions. Little People. Us.

When you give away your right to choose and your right to defend your person and property, you are pandering to and sparking the basest power-hungry cannibalistic instincts in others. If you gave your money to me to manage, and you never, ever asked for an accounting of my investments, I might just be tempted to be lawless. Persons who are certain that they are not going to be watched or accountable are more likely to do us ill than persons who are subject to scrutiny, and meaningful consequences.

We, as individuals, now sit back and watch a global economy in ruins. We watch partisan politics continue to prevail over the needs of nations. When Rush Limbaugh talks about "wanting Obama to fail,", he is being more than childish and spiteful -- he is being suicidal and homicidal. He is hoping that our ship will sink because it wasn't built according to his blueprint. That is the essence of politics. Our leaders, representatives and officials would have us all be miserable in the interest of "making a point." And our civil servants, like good tin soldiers, will do whatever they are told, without question, in order to keep their jobs, even as they sit onboard a sinking ship. It's musical chairs, buck passing, bullying and stupid, blind obedience.

---

When we network, we choose our circle of acquaintances, and we get to know them, and invite them to know us. We do not generally refer out or friends and clients to strangers, or give work to persons without references, track records, or some transparency. Yet despite these basic tenets of networking and business wisdom, we have stopped choosing, and have delegated all of our choices to untested, dangerous strangers in the political and governing processes. We have taken leave of our senses when it comes to politics. Very, very poor networking. Very, very poor business practice. We, a cooperative of intelligent, enterprising networkers, have ignored our own better judgment, our own preachings, teachings and coachings, when it has come to letting others run our lives.

No aspect of our lives should be exempt from reason. We should not permit ourselves to be bullied or to become weak and dependent.

Great things have been built by inventors, entrepreneurs and free-thinkers. People just like us.

Open your eyes, one and all. As individual networkers, as entrepreneurs, the time has indeed come to take back our lives. Working together, we, as networkers and innovators, are our own economy. Our own salvation. And, I believe, a sovereign nation in cyberspace as well as the perceived "real world" if we work together.

Let's stop being strangers to one another. Let's start getting together, sharing and organizing. Let's consolidate our ingenuity, our resources, our knowledge and our power. Let's exponentialize.

Entrepreneurship and networking are the engines that drive all economics. Politics is merely the waste product of inefficient human social processes.

My colleagues: THIS IS OUR TIME, IF WE CHOOSE TO SEIZE IT AND USE IT.

Faithfully, and with respect,

Douglas Castle

The Good/Bad News: We're All Connected

For any of us who have ever complained about an employer/IT department controlling what sites you may/may not access from your work computer, this article from InsideTech.com is quite eye-opening. Detailed schematics of President Obama's top secret helicopter were found on an Iranian IP address.

Mr. Boback (CEO of security group Tiversa) believes the leak may be innocent in nature. He points out that many file sharing programs automatically share the contents of your entire hard drive. The employee may merely have downloaded a P2P client to download music and videos and ended up unwittingly leaking the highly confidential information on Marine One. Says Mr. Boback, “When downloading one of these file-sharing programs, you are effectively allowing others around the world to access your hard drive.”

I would hate to explain any of that on my next job interview.

Freely flowing information empowers us as individuals and joins us to the collective consciousness of humanity, but to quote Uncle Ben, "With great power comes great responsibility."

PEOPLE, POWER & POSSIBILITIES: Are You Asking the Right Questions?

People, Power & Possibilities with Donna Fisher

Networking weaves together listening, offering, thanking and, of course, asking – asking for leads, referrals, contacts, information, support. It's all about knowing how to ask, when to ask and most important to ask the right questions. And the right question is the one that is easy for someone to respond to and give you valuable information.

Tips for asking:

Initially ask questions that help to put people at ease (a question that is easy to answer).

Typically ask open-ended questions that help to generate interaction.

Ask for support once you have developed rapport or offered support.

Ask when you are able to have the other person's full attention.

Ask while respecting their time and availability.

Ask "Who do you know who . . . " questions (rather than "Do you know anybody . . . ?"

Ask with specificity (rather than making a request that's so broad it's difficult to respond).

Ask with enough information so that people can respond and without overwhelming people with too much information (give people a chance to ask for more information if they need it).

Ask with clarity and confidence (don't beat around the bush and don't use guilt or manipulation).

Get in the habit of asking so that it flows easily and naturally.

Remember that asking someone for help or support is an acknowledgment of them (it shows that you value their support).

Ask for contacts in your target market but don't expect people to qualify your prospects for you. Ask people how you can be of help to them.

Ask in a non-demanding, assertive manner so that people can feel good about "choosing" to respond.

LASTING IMPRESSIONS: Social Responsibility In Business And In The Arts

Lasting Impressions with Sian Lindemann

The “Power of Beauty”

I have often written about the topic of Social Responsibility. The theme is, obviously, a recurring one. Artists discern a profound reason to create their works, around one topic, around one theme, around an internally driven vision, that culminates quite similarly among creative individuals… the need to define the quintessential “connection between man and nature.”

Dyann Lyon Photo

Dale Chihuly Glass Art, Exhibition, Tacoma, Washington

“The photo posted here is from a recent exhibition of Dale Chihuly, renowned glass artist from the Pacific Northwest, where he has placed innumerable sculptural works in and among the exotic plants of The Conservatory in Tacoma, Washington

.

Man – made creations interspersed with the exotic plant life cultivated here makes for a “wonderland,” a surreal expression of color, form and exquisite perfection.” Man and nature interacting, in harmony.

A creative business network is forming around this topic.

The “team” at Social Traffic has gathered and formed in an extraordinary way. An Australian visionary, business man, and social marketing guru, Simon U Ford, inspired a group of people, including myself, to go beyond the norm.

Providing a platform, not unlike the Reality Show and “game,” Survivor, a company has formed around a common vision. A common desire to learn to navigate and utilize the internet in a more effective manner, and has inspired hundreds and now thousands of people to play this game.

The prize, coveted shareholder positions in a new marketing and promotions company, aptly titled, Social Traffic Inc.

A sister company, Events Listed, www.eventslisted.com, is an additional platform where events, live or virtual, may be listed and subsequently promoted by Social Traffic Inc., by applying this newly absorbed educational program. 70+ Videos from the Events Listed Learning Center allow each of the participants to gather around the listing and promotion of thousands of events, world wide, that promote a common theme. This incredible training, a value of several thousand dollars is being provided to each one of us on the team, free of charge.

The initial celebration and global promotion is in support of Earth Day Birthday, 2009. It is an incredible demonstration of “will” and “action” to create a company from nothing, using only “human capital,” and grows to implement a plan to support Earth Day Events from around the world.

Sian Lindemann Photo

“The Badlands, South Dakota

“The Power of Creation,

Thriving in the most challenging of environments”

These photos, clearly define, the vision I’ve held and acted upon for 30 years. Art in public places, and the ability to create “from nothing” provides a view into the NEW paradigm where man and nature can function and interact in harmony. One event, one photo can change a life, “for the good,” forever.

Art has an impact that is illuminating, thought provoking and ultimately is inspiring to the human soul and causes us to take action, in extraordinary ways.

Timely, that in our financial climate, it would not appear the public would be supportive of an extravagant art installation in Tacoma, Washington, yet it has occurred, now. It was funded, well attended, and made available to the public free of charge.

It tells me that I am not alone in my thinking, the need to share the beauty of our earth, and to share the beauty of the impact man can have on it. We, as a species, can evolve, can lessen our footprint, and create inspired thoughts and actions, as demonstrated with the Chihuly Exhibition.

A “renaissance” if you will, is upon us, and the business of art and the business of “networking” will never be the same.

Earth Day, 2009

Rarely in our daily lives, do we think about Earth Day, Mother Earth, and how each one of our routines impacts the very existence our planet. Social Traffic, INC, the company, and especially, Social Traffic, the people, who comprise this company, are thinking about these things, and are acting upon them.

Thousands of people from around the world have gathered around a common cause, the likes of which I have only seen in the movies, “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” “Independence Day,” and others, where in a flash, we became a united race, acting and operating in unison and harmony.

From around the world, the participants in Social Traffic are speaking up, speaking out, creating articles, videos, and other medium to share what they will personally do, to live less impactfully upon our planet…and the voice is loud, passionate, humorous and touching.

I am honored to be a part of it and it brings pride to each one of us involved with the organization, and the reminder that business can be:

1) Fun

2) Profitable

3) Inspired

Lastly, the One World, One Gift, campaign is a call to action, in regard to what each one of can do, to “save money” to eliminate our wastefulness, as in excessive use of paper towels, car trips to the store, drinking purified water from an installed system, versus plastic bottled water. Very simple things, each one of us can do, to save $10.00 or more.

Inspiring thousands or hundreds of thousands of people to do the same, we can collect those “savings” to support alternative businesses, like Tree Banking Inc, or Water Logic International who are devoted to profitability by replanting rainforest, or by water purification systems that exist and are being implemented to purify tainted water from agricultural or industrial runoff.

I welcome those who want to know more about what we are doing. I welcome those who want to be a part. I welcome those who are willing to drop their ego at the door and become a part of history.

THE STRESS OF SUCCESS: What's Stopping You?

The Stress of Success with Cifu Cinda Hocking

When you know what you are supposed to do for your business and think it should be done, yet it doesn’t get done, what is going on?

The number one reason we don’t do things is Low Desire. You may have great passion for the big picture mission of your business. You can envision it and see it in operation. However some of the day-to-day necessary, practical, and repetitive steps that are taken to get you there are decidedly not your passion. You may understand that these daily increments are important factors in building and maintaining business, but understanding alone does not make them happen. If you don’t like the activities and don’t want to do them, it is very easy to find reasons not to. Without motivation, it is easier to procrastinate, creatively avoid them and generally try to find ways to do everything else but give time and attention to daily maintenance and operations tasks.

In order to move forward and integrate these tasks into your business, you need to drill down to the essence of WHY you don’t like to do them. We all have loads of excuses, and we all have our share of laziness, but the core issue most often is that we don’t like doing something because it either make us uncomfortable or we find it boring. If you sit for a moment honestly looking at feelings of discomfort or boredom, what do you find? We don’t tend to do things unless we believe they are important AND we feel we have the ability to do (or learn to do) them. So, if the thought of a task makes you feel heavy, weighted down, or anxious – these are clues that you don’t find them important enough or don’t feel confident enough in your ability to perform them adequately.

What Can A Conductor Teach You About Leadership Strategies ?

CLICK ON THE ICON ABOVE TO GET STARTED TODAY

Not Sure It Is Important – when we think a business task isn’t important this can be because we are experiencing conflicting priorities. We see there is so much to do, so we take the most urgent and emergent and save the daily tasks…until they become urgent and emergent! Also, very creative or idea-based business owners can lose sight of the importance of operations and maintenance tasks because they often have more global and fewer linear/sequential skills.

Lack of Confidence in Skills – when we are better at the other tasks in our business, or doing the other tasks provides more immediate feedback/results that boost our self-esteem, that’s where we are going to focus our energy. If we are not sure we really understand the daily tasks, we may have a hard time asking for help, or feel that we should know how - and the fact that we don’t is embarrassing.

In order to truly get a handle on our business, we need to step away from rebelling against, withdrawing from or getting out of control towards the things that make us uncomfortable or bored. Instead, we need to spend time face-to-face with the feelings that the tasks bring up in us. This is challenging because we would rather not feel them! There may be better methods and formats to complete the dreaded tasks, better times of day for us, and better skills we could develop to tackle them. However, we won’t truly be able to embrace those unless we examine our true reasons for not doing the tasks in the first place.

Cinda Hocking, LMSW
Internal Energy Plus Consultant and Lifestyle Counselor

As you might guess, from reading my column over the years, my book project with Jane surges has provided numerous opportunities for Jane and me to apply each of these strategies to our partnership. This strategy, shortening learning curves, has proven to be a particular catalyst to fuel us forward.

We realized over lunch after a racquetball game that we both were passionate about relationships and relationship success. My writings about networking and my passion about another level beyond what is happening in the mainstream complemented well with Jane’s writings and passion around helping people hold a relationship vision that opens the possibility of co-creation and partnership. Within 30 minutes, we identified an overlapping purpose and this book partnership was launched. Within a short eight months, it was finished. How do two people who do not know each other very well come together and join forces toward this kind of project or any other? We would like to say, from our experience—not just this one but many others, it is through shortening the learning curve. Following are two graphics. One illustrates a long learning curve where side roads are taken as individuals lose track of the project vision.

This is contrasted to a shortened learning curve that focuses on finding common ground. When we focus on common ground and what is most important in a given moment, we keep the bigger picture of our purpose and intentions before us. We work straight ahead—using direct communication and staying mindful of the context. Trusting that the other has our best interest in mind, we move ahead at a pace fueled with positive energy. See if you can picture this for yourself.

Long Learning Curve:

Short Learning Curve:

To help shorten the learning curve, there may be issues you are facing. Following are questions for your consideration. Think about one of your personal or business partners. Respond to the following questions:

What project emerged between the two of you?
What problems, issues, needs or opportunities can the two of you respond to and address together?
What resources, information, time frame will support your project?
Who will be impacted by this project, and how will they be affected? How might they be involved in the project?
How will you know if you are individually and jointly successful?
What adjustments need to be made as you move forward toward project completion (dream fulfillment)?
How do your channels of communication support your project and shorten the learning curve? (i.e. email, voice mail, direct communication, talking about prior experiences or learning curves.)
Are you looking out for each other as well as your joint interests throughout this process? If not, what improvements need to be made?
What challenges are you currently facing (financial, communication, resources, etc.?)

What steps taken together would move you more expediently and more closely to project completion?

Scenario Planning

There are times for extensive market studies and long term plans. During those times, by all means incorporate a longer approach to moving toward a joint collaborative effort.

Scenario planning will help you move much more quickly and may be just what you need for the joint project at hand. Write a brief case study with the objective and with as many variables that you can think of. Balance your optimistic thoughts with opposite possibilities to make sure that you are encompassing all possible contingencies. Include as much of the “unpredictable” as possible—again include what can go right, and what can go wrong. Then discuss the scenario and how you might deal with challenges that might arise.

What action steps will you take? Add these steps to your calendar right now.
