POWER THOUGHT OF THE WEEK: B2B Power Networking, Part 3

Power Thought of the Week with Patricia Parham, Ph.D.

B2B In-Kind Trading

The products and services that your business offers are needed by other businesses, just as you need their services. Where might these needs and benefits intersect? Small businesses need accounting, advertising, counseling, building, computer, legal, administrative, rental space, marketing, production and writing services. Why not trade in-kind? Be opportunistic in exploring strategic alliances that might expand the services that you offer to clients, as well. For example, if you have products and another enterprise is available to provide the shipping service for those products, pool your resources. Rather than subcontracting, create a joint venture in which both businesses do what they do best.

POWER THOUGHT OF THE WEEK: B2B Power Networking, Part 2

Power Thought of the Week with Patricia Parham, Ph.D.

B2B Pooling of Resources

There are a number of start-up business costs that are large in comparison to their early returns. For example, credit card and on-line charge services might be purchased and shared between totally unrelated small businesses. Complementary businesses might launch joint advertising campaigns, e.g., electricians and plumbers might share advertising space or web pages. Sharing office space, high speed or administrative services and buying supplies in bulk are other ways for small businesses to economize. What businesses offer services complementary to yours? Which businesses might be interested in sharing overhead expenses? Look for ways to partner B2B.

POWER THOUGHT OF THE WEEK: B2B Power Networking, Part 1

Power Thought of the Week with Patricia Parham, Ph.D.

B2B Power Networking

What sets Business-to-Business (B2B) Networking apart from personal networking? B2B networking offers opportunities to pool or share resources. B2B networking opens the way to trade resources, in-kind. Finally, B2B networking requires a greater confidence in the work of an enterprise, rather than simply in the work of an individual. Think about your business processes, as well as product development and sales. In what areas might strategic alliances help to promote your business? These relationships need to be formalized to minimize misunderstandings and maximize value for both businesses.
