We’ve reviewed over twenty different opinions from the blogosphere, from financial analysts and the self appointed technological gurus.
It is based on these reviews and our own opinions that we end this year with our own prognosis as to what we are likely to see and experience over the next twelve months.
Our predictions are centered around the rapidly changing dynamics of the social web and the themes that are driving its adoption. These themes include...Social Web in 2008

![]() | from Scott Allen According to a new study, an estimated 35 percent of U.S. entrepreneurs have dyslexia, compared to only 1 percent of corporate managers. Previous studies in the U.K. have reported slightly lower, but still extraordinary numbers. Other studies have shown a high correlation between entrepreneurship and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). This week we'll look at some of these connections. |

Jay Deragon asks...
Have you ever considered why so many people look for other people to connect with?
Think about it for a minute. Over 500 million people are profiled in social networks of one form or another and growing at over 30% a year. There are over 700 different social networks available for anyone to join, besides the closed networks that one has to be invited into to join, serving numerous interest and affinities. Besides social networks we have people search engines, online phone directories, reverse look up and the list of technology that enables us to find people is endless.

Networking, it's a key piece in the business realm, but how do we really know when our networks are working for us?
Great, you have 220,000 Linkedin connections and get one trillion emails a day from Linkedin, what does it really do for you? The same could be said for any online social media/networking site (Facebook, MySpace, etc). I'm not here to bash on them, it just seems that every month there seems to be some new iteration of the same old song and dance but with a twist!
But what about the basics and the time honored traditions of what networking should be, as shown by the RNIA (Relationship Networking Industry Association). Now don't get me wrong, I love most networking and social media sites just as much as everyone else...
Will: I wouldn’t say we’re really any different from most business savvy individuals, as for me, I go in there as me, Will Radcliffe, just be you, but try not to be a total ass because no one likes an ass…
Joe: At different events it is pretty obvious who owns a business and who is there because they are an employee of a business. The business owner will most likely not have an alcoholic beverage in their hand, while the employee will. When networking the only thing that will work is being yourself. If you try to be something you are not then you will come across as being phony. An entrepreneur, when networking, is not thinking about how the other person can help them, but rather how they can help the other person.

It is easy to take for granted those people who were in our networks before networking became popular. Old friends, family members, mentors and teachers enjoy knowing how much you appreciate them. Find special ways to share with them how they have enriched your life, either by doing something or just being with them. Affirm them and make this holiday season memorable and very special.

Mahalo, the search-engine-meets-Wikipedia project and Jason Calacanis’ baby, has rolled up quite a big and interesting update today: Mahalo Social. It gives users the ability to create their own profiles on Mahalo, which in turn enables them to communicate with their friends on the service as well as actively participate in Mahalo’s editing process.
We’re not talking about some tiny update which lets you have your own avatar and that’s it (btw, yes, you can have your own avatar on Mahalo now). There are a lot of features here: your profile can contain info about your other social networking profiles such as Facebook, LinkedIn or Pownce; you can recommend new links for Mahalo search results; you can track your submissions on Mahalo; you can discuss on any page on Mahalo, and of course, you can add friends and follow their activity on Mahalo, too...

It's that time of year to think about what we're grateful for, to review what we've accomplished and to start re-creating a vision for the future. One of the concepts that has always been very powerful for me is "Habit Awareness". Aristotle said, "Excellence is not an act, it is a habit."
The power of a habit is about developing something to become a natural and automatic part of the way you think, act and/or behave...

In my column with The National Networker, I often like to write about how people are using different online social networks to network their websites to grow their business.
For this column, I decided to interview Lori Osterberg of Vision Business Concepts, to learn more about how she uses Craigslist to grow her business.
Craigslist has over 30 million viewers per month. People who use Craigslist can post and view classifieds, and communicate in forums.
It’s important to note that when promoting your business on Craigslist, you are only allowed to post in the ‘Small Biz Ads’ section under ‘Services’, so that you are not spamming the community.

This month I reviewed a web-site named www.lawguru.com. This site comprises an online community of over five-thousand (5000) attorneys in the U.S. maded up of solo practitioners and law firms.
The purpose is to gain exposure for an attorney's firm by reaching new clients by providing information and to be seen as a resource in their practice area. All members automatically get legal questions from potential clients in all specialty areas and geographic location. Further, there is ample opportunity for attorneys to network with other attorneys beyond their professional scope and state boundaries. This is a valuable chance to create relationships within the profession...

Network your health by asking your family and friends their favorite procedures for a healthy living lifestyle. Email health tips to your favorite people and ask them to email you health tips. Attend health seminars and gain new insights. Take time to ask questions of vendors when they are at your health food store and markets.
I have been using two tablespoons a day of raw unfiltered organic vinegar for over a year. I tried missing it in plain water it was too harsh for me. After experimenting with different combinations, I prefer t mix the 2 tablespoons of vinegar with 4 oz’s of organic grape juice and 4 oz’s of pure water. You may prefer another juice combination.
The effect it has had on my arthritis is a lovely surprise. The swelling in the joints of my hands has decreased significantly. My skin is smooth to the touch. I no longer use face make up. This is just a couple of the many benefits of taking vinegar for health has provided me.
I use “Bragg Raw Unfiltered Organic Apple Cider Vinegar.” It contains no preservatives and is USDA Organic approved. Their vinegar is aged in wood like fine wine. The care taken to produce their vinegar comes through in its refreshing flavor...

I have long been an advocate that artists ARE “the bank”. The artist might be on the verge of starvation, broke, living simply, eating badly, or anything close to what we call the compromised edge, AND if a Non Profit organization asks them to donate a painting to an auction that will underwrite a fundraiser for a Children’s Hospital, an arts education program, a cancer research center, or as in the case with Hurricane Katrina ... the artists from New Orleans traveled around the country playing the traditional music for which New Orleans is known, purely to raise money for their own home town. They did not have to be adopted, placed, housed, fed, or anything like that ... they are a resilient group of people and that is one of the major reasons that I JUST love them all so much ... the artist always finds a means to procure what ever is needed. It’s just that state of challenge that encourages them to create, and to continue to GIVE.
In the case, with being asked to donate a painting ... and being completely broke, the artist finds a way to procure the canvas, the paint, the framing, AND they deliver ... The work is often, auctioned for a lesser price than the value of the work ... Hmmm?
I’ve seen it happen many, many times. It continues to blow my mind, especially knowing what I know, and knowing HOW to procure sales on behalf of an individual artist, and their unique works.
I have recently engaged a contract with Courtney Milne Productions, and artist / photographer Courtney Milne ... (see Past Articles, Courtney Milne, Photographer As Mystic)...

When you think of a gong at a networking event, it evokes various thoughts. For those of us who are Baby Boomers (or old Gen X'ers as I am), you may think of the 1976 TV show where people did very strange or unusual performances on stage and a panel of three celebrities would "gong" the worst ones. Some of these shows are now circulating around on YouTube - now any age can see this show. It definitely was strange, so with trepidation I attended the brand-new SeattleNetwork.net's first mixer recently. I heard that there would be "no badges, no fee to join, no dues, and no rules, with a great entertaining 'Gong Show' venue."
At one point I was not sure how long I would stay there because it DID feel much like other networking I had done at the most beautiful and upscale Columbia Tower Club, on the 75th floor of the Columbia Center in downtown Seattle.
Then I heard the gong. Israel Rothman, CEO and founder of Social Media Systems wielded the padded mallet, and he certainly seemed to enjoy it...

Building on my last list of sports social networks, 25+ Sports Social Networking Websites, here’s an updated list of sports-related social networks that reflects your feedback as well as some other sites I’ve discovered:
FYI, in some cases it is unclear how many members some of these communities actually have, but I at least wanted to provide this list because I think there is a growing opportunity for certain niche social networks (especially in sports, which is such a huge passion and part of daily life). While some of these sites may die, others will thrive and continue to be “passion hubs” for avid fans and participants of specific sports, teams and leagues....

LinkedIn has just launched its own developer platform and a new design that promises to make it more useful to its millions of business users.
Earlier this year, many have wondered if social network Facebook would overtake LinkedIn, as businesspeople have begun using Facebook for business networking — and for enjoying its more social features.
LinkedIn’s new features now put it a step ahead of the competition. You’ll start finding connections to people on LinkedIn while you’re using other web sites, through third party applications. You’ll see connections from friends from other social networks like Myspace and Hi5 show up in LinkedIn. You’ll get “modules” (like Facebook applications) and a news aggregator, featuring articles about your industry — LinkedIn’s efforts to make you spend more time on the site each day.

If you were to bring together business and community leaders in a small group setting and provide breakfast in a convenient and attractive environment, one might argue that you would have the recipe for a successful business networking organization. If you added interesting and knowledgeable speakers and packed the program full of opportunities to meet people, learn skills and grow both personally and professionally, you’d have an atypical networking group. But add in a mission, something that the entire group could focus on and you’d have an extraordinary opportunity. In short, you’d have the Atlanta Community Breakfast.
The Atlanta Community Breakfast is a network of individuals who are interested in exploring issues of success, personal leadership, and life-balance as they relate to our personal, professional and spiritual lives. It is a weekly breakfast in a convenient, attractive location where business and community leaders can grow in their faith and mentor others while networking with and meeting like minded individuals.

I met Craig through LinkedIn.com and he helped us with a project in Calgary that brought together all the major oil and gas associations to help address the lack of people in Calgary. The project was very successful with over 60 senior oil and gas executives attending. This is the kind of network Craig has in Calgary.
Craig is a Dadpreneur, which means he is a stay at home Dad three days a week while being the consummate entrepreneur. Craig’s core network is his 10,000 connections which he maintains and grows by about 1,000 connections a year. Craig is an early adopter of technology, one of the first several thousand on LinkedIn and full time user of Plaxo. Craig knows everything about using the technology to maintain and connect with a huge number of connections.
Craig’s passions (beside his family) is helping start-up entrepreneurs and promoting the Trigger-Based Selling™. Trigger based selling is about identifying key times when customers are ready to buy. You can find out more about Trigger Selling at Craig’s blog at www.Shiftselling.com.
