LASTING IMPRESSIONS: Kermit Was Wrong...

Lasting Impressions with Sian Lindemann

Kermit Was Wrong …

It’s EASY To Be “GREEN”

Trending with the “trends”

The good news for nearly all business men and women, is that if one actually pays attention to what artists are up to…they might learn long before it becomes “trendy” what will be the up and coming “buzz” in business.

This trend took longer than most but for over 30 years, my companies, in a variety of forms have “voiced” the need for environmental awareness.

Now it’s the “hot” topic, of course…

But looking back now as early at 1980 in the state of Hawaii, a few outspoken artists started this idea, based on an unassuming interaction with the Humpback Whales, Dolphins and Marine Life that frequent Hawaiian Waters, and in particular the island of Maui.

It is where we find Marine Life Artist, Robert Lyn Nelson, still residing and continuing his 30 year devotion to preservation of Marine Life in the islands, and around the world.

Robert Lyn Nelson http://www.robertlynnelson.com is an artist with whom I have worked ~ nearly 30 years ago ~ and with whom Sian Design has rekindled a business relationship ~
The Image below is from Robert’s recent collections and this Original Oil on Canvas is headed for stardom. A recent trip to Shanghai, China on behalf of Sian Design, C & S Media ( California and Shanghai) and Fett Marketing ( Denver, Colorado) are, in combined effort, creating a coup…not because its “trendy” to be green, but because now, well defined as an exuberant voice for Environmental Protection, and Master Artist, Robert Lyn Nelson has been selected to be featured in a World Class Art Exhibition At Shanghai, World Expo, launching in May of 2010.

Emerald Green Dawn
Robert Lyn Nelson Atelier

The image selected here is slated to be given to President Obama in support of his recent trip to Shanghai and Beijing, in support of the furthering the development of new technologies and furthering the need for Environmental Protection…and Robert had the chance to travel to Shanghai just last week to initiate these efforts.

Two images were selected. The one, Emerald Green Dawn, shown here shall be gifted to the President of The United States.

A second, Titled “Society” shall be gifted to The USA Pavilion in support of the 6 month celebration of Shanghai World Expo, 2010.

Additionally two other options are unfolding for Robert as a result of his travel to China…an introduction to the President and Executive Director of the UN Pavilion in Shanghai now also wish to work with Robert on a particular project that will carry his name and his artwork to international fame, and interaction with thousands of children from all over the world, and a unique exhibition at the UN Pavilion.

And lastly, a meeting with renowned Chinese Artist and Press Conference with the Shanghai Art Museum will bring an opportunity for an international, cultural exchange between not only fine art painters, but will add the same option for photographers, musicians, and dancers from cultures both USA based and Chinese Artists.

WE are thrilled about this opportunity…for in one brief moment during Robert’s trip to Shanghai there was an illuminating “moment” ~ Where all discussion of politics, economic concerns, and world problems halted…and only beauty and the discussion of how better to achieve it were the impassioned topics.

Much conversation, sharing of delightful feasts, and communication brought to the table the “highest” and “purest” form of “networking” I’ve ever had the privledge to witness.

For all the trials endured over my 30 year career in the Fine Arts, this meeting was a pivotal moment for me personally, professionally, and spiritually…ultimately understanding that Peace is indeed possible…and it is through creativity and the arts that it can actually occur.

This Thanksgiving Day 2009 ~ I am blessed…and truly honored to be a part of international “history” in the blend of culture and the arts providing transformation, and “Time of Renaissance”

LASTING IMPRESSIONS: What Are We Missing ~

Lasting Impressions with Sian Lindemann

"What Are We Missing?"

Hmmm ... something to think about ...

Washington, DC Metro Station on a cold January morning in 2007. The man with a violin played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time approx. 2 thousand people went through the station, most of them on their way to work.

After 3 minutes a middle aged man noticed there was a musician playing. He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds and then hurried to meet his schedule.

4 minutes later:

The violinist received his first dollar: a woman threw the money in the hat and, without stopping, continued to walk.

6 minutes:

A young man leaned against the wall to listen to him, then looked at his watch and started to walk again.

10 minutes:

A 3-year old boy stopped but his mother tugged him along hurriedly. The kid stopped to look at the violinist again, but the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk, turning his head all the time. This action was repeated by several other children. Every parent, without exception, forced their children to move on quickly.

45 minutes:

The musician played continuously. Only 6 people stopped and listened for a short while. About 20 gave money, but continued to walk at their normal pace. The man collected a total of $32.

1 hour:

He finished playing and silence took over. No one noticed. No one applauded, nor was there any recognition.

Findings:

No one knew this, but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the greatest musicians in the world.

He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, with a violin worth $3.5 million dollars.

Two days before Joshua Bell sold out a theater in Boston where the seats averaged $100.

This is a true story.

Joshua Bell playing incognito in the Metro Station was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste, and people's priorities.

The questions raised: "In a common place environment, at an inappropriate hour, do we perceive beauty?

Do we stop to appreciate it?

Do we recognize talent in an unexpected context?"

One possible conclusion reached from this experiment could be this: If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world, playing some of the finest music ever written, with one of the most beautiful instruments ever made....

How many other things are we missing?........."

Networking The Right Room ~

This is a poignant story, and it relates to the innumerable people, products, services and "craft" who attempt to network their craft in the wrong domain, room, venue, or other featured location.

The example is excellent.

One must "walk a mile" in another's shoes. Perception is everything. You've heard the term, "Location, Location, Location." This story defines the necessity to choose an appropriate venue for exhibition, as a FIRST priority.

Did I say "FIRST" priority?

Of course, one's work needs to be excellent, the best you can produce, both technically and from the best of tools available in your industry. Secondly, it requires being "masterfully" displayed, as one would want to comfortably place it in their own home or office.

These, too, are important aspects regarding the quality of the work, but just as in the story above, it is essential to consider the quality of the venue...and I'm not limiting that venue to an exhibition space in a "gallery."

I've done several art shows in the least likely of locations, most of which were not galleries...but were independent venues where only my work would be featured and would not be mixed with a variety of styles, or mediums. I wanted to be "exclusively" featured, so as to warrant the price tag placed on each item.

The venues I have selected, over the years, were not usually used as exhibition space, but through appropriate negotiation with the provider, I have usually been able to secure "free" space that benefited the provider in other ways.

Examples of this type of venue were:

Grouse Mountain ~ Theater in The Sky
Known as a ski resort in Vancouver, British Columbia, it is required, initially for all visitors to ride a gondola from city floor to mountain top, which allows for the most spectacular view of Vancouver, British Columbia.

The venue at the top of the mountain is actually a Multimedia Theater, used predominantly for Corporate Events, and most days goes completely without notice. Conveniently it is located next to a "sky" bar and restaurant.

The negotiation process went like this. Inquiring of the "business office," I asked if I could secure the Theater for an Event for a 3 day Weekend Exhibition. I offered no payment for the venue but in lieu of payment assured the executives that I would bring 100 people up the mountain per evening.

The benefit to the resort was as follows:

1) They received revenue from the purchase of Gondola Tickets ~ 100+ per day
2) They benefited from the sale of food and drink from the "Sky" Bar
3) They benefited from the PR of new people visiting the Ski Resort

Thus I was given the "use" of the venue free of charge for 3 days ~ Good Deal

There are many other options one can choose, but based on the story above, GET out of your studio and into the "LIGHT." It can be more affordable than you can imagine, yet the value to your company and your visibility as an artist, is priceless !

Wishing you the best of Success

LASTING IMPRESSIONS: Tim O'Neill

Lasting Impressions with Sian Lindemann

Technology…and the Arts
Tim O'Neill
http://www.timoneillstudios.com

A Brave New World…

Tim O’Neill is an Artist to Watch…

“Tim began his career as a photographer working in a darkroom lab and processing film for a local company in his high school years. He joined the US Navy in 1979 and was trained as a photojournalist at the US Navy Schools of Photography in Pensacola, FL. Tim finished his Navy career attached the Combat Camera Group at the Atlantic Fleet Audiovisual Command in Norfolk, VA. Since 1979, there have been many different directions of study in fine art, photography and business that Tim has pursued. As a fine art printer and photographer many years were spent printing silver gelatin, various non-silver processes and platinum. Platinum printing remains a favorite of his today. The digital revolution found its way to Tim’s studio in 2002 and now commissioned mixed media portraits are becoming more and more prevalent with discriminating clients.

Currently Tim is a self employed entrepreneur creating art and growing his brand as well as teaching business and marketing skills to artists in online and offline workshops and seminars. His painting has taken on a new direction and he is working on two book deals and a calendar. A calendar featuring 12 paintings of children angels is being published, a book for artist on using social media marketing, and an instructional book entitled, “Digital Painting for the Artistically Challenged” are in process. On the entrepreneurial side Tim has owned various franchises in several industries including the health and fitness, insurance and securities and automotive industries. Current passionate pursuit is building his online businesses for residual income, painting commissioned portraits and other fine art pieces and finishing his masters degree”. Tim O’Neill

Tim has four children ages 24, 21, 10 and 5 as of 2009. The O’Neill’s live in North Platte Nebraska.

Tim O’Neill ~

“Grandpa’s Hat”

Tim O’Neill came to my attention because of this painting.

Titled “Grandpa’s Hat,” is from the collection of portraiture by American artist, painter, photographer, Tim O’Neill, whom I discovered in my newly adopted passion for Social Media.

Tim is a “friend” from Facebook.

Face Book, a viable tool, a Social Networking site, and like Twitter, YouTube, Squidoo and other Social Media platforms, is not only valid for the building of community and friends from around the world, but is an extremely valuable mix of “outlets” on which one can implement marketing strategies, via the cross syndication of information, that no longer require “retail” locations, ie galleries, as primary distribution for the sale of the works.

The technological applications do not end with Social Media Marketing.

The other most intriguing “piece” about Tim O’Neill, as an artist, is that he has crossed all the boundaries between technological “paint” tools and the known hand rendered techniques of traditional painting. He has adopted, mastered and has ‘included’ the technological tools available to all of us, in the creation of the “master” works themselves.

Step aside, George Lucas, and ILM masteries. Tim O’Neill is the “new age” of digital technologies in the arts.

It is no wonder that he has been “challenged” by elitists in the arts industries.

The man is a “walking” innovation.

There is MORE…

Currently engaged in the final design and launch of a “digital” painting magazine, Tim is creating the very publication in which he will be sharing these remarkable tools and methods with the public.

I am reminded of a request I made to a mentor of mine, posed nearly one year ago. I suggested that we create a “revolution” online, in the arts. Spoken like a true visionary, I asked for the revolution, studied the methods required to implement it, specific to sales, and never in my wildest dreams imagined there would also be a “revolution” in the methods and techniques used to create the original works, as well.

I am humbled, and I feel much like I imagine the early explorers of the “new world” to have felt. The world is NOT “flat.”

Tim O’Neill ~ make sure to watch, listen and follow him, as he is on the verge of opening the treasure trove of what is to be the new direction in the world of fine arts.

LASTING IMPRESSIONS: Michael Jackson Died Today, June 25, 2009

Lasting Impressions with Sian Lindemann

I don’t often speak about the super “star” complement of artists, for as today, it is often such a wide gap between those who are emerging and someone like Michael Jackson who has been triumphant at the “top” of his game.

There is “often” no way one can actually relate to the plight of someone so extremely gifted.

The uniqueness of an artist like Michael Jackson is so rarely achieved. And thus, why is it, when someone like him achieves the “golden ring” is it so hard to remain in a position of “elite status?”

We, as humans, are the problem.

Currently, we aspire, as a culture, to achieve success, joy, creative self- expression, individualism, freedom, and we revere those who achieve that position…Then why is it, that once particular individuals achieve that status, we attempt to drag them into the mud. It is clearly the 180 degree opposite and define the worst qualities of mankind, rising to the surface to diminish someone like him, via greed, fear, lust, and the rest of the seven deadly sins.

I am personally not a “bible thumping” religious person. But it seems every person through out history who has achieved a state of operating in “inherent” goodness, is crucified.

Jesus, Buddha, Ghandi, Martin Luther King, John F Kennedy, John Lennon, Elvis, and lastly, Michael Jackson. Certainly there are others who have achieved, fame and success in a variety of different endeavors, and in this case, the arts.

I am reminded today of the bible quote and I will have to paraphrase….”First we must become as little children, before we can enter the kingdom of heaven”…..Michael Jackson did, a true “pure heart,” as I, for one, do not believe that any of the accusations imposed on Michael Jackson, were true.

I believe that greed and envy were the intentions of those that accused him of misbehavior…I do not know, I do not care. Acquitted in a court of law, Michael Jackson walked free. Who are human beings to judge him so harshly, where for 40 + years, Michael Jackson was an inherent sound track backing up each of our generation’s existence, influencing music, dance, media, video, movies, and interracial acceptance.

I am so terribly saddened today, not by the fact that Mr. Jackson has found peace, but by the ongoing and continued media frenzy that follows him even after his death.

Peace on this earth is found not in the ability to have like -mindedness…but in acceptance and reverence of the essential need for differences. It is the only way in which we learn from one another, the value of our humanity, the value of the earth on which we reside, and the extraordinary gift, of which we are a part, called “life.”

LASTING IMPRESSIONS: Michael Jantzen

Lasting Impressions with Sian Lindemann

Michael Jantzen - Environmentally Friendly Art and Architectural Design

“Michael Jantzen is an internationally known artist and designer whose work has been featured in hundreds of articles in books, magazines, and newspapers from around the world. His work has also been presented on various TV and radio programs, and in many galleries. Some of his designs have been exhibited at the National Building Museum, the Canadian Center for Architecture, and at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.”

About The Artist

“Michael “Jantzen” was born in Centralia, Illinois and grew up on a summer resort near Carlyle Illinois where his early experimentations with structure design led him to S.I.U.E. (Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville) and their Dean’s List Program.
After graduating with a Bachelors of Arts degree, Michael went on to receive his Masters of Arts degree from Washington University in St. Louis Missouri.
Michael moved to the Los Angeles area in 1990 to continue his leading edge experimental work in the crossover fields of art and architecture.”

I am “awe – struck.” Sian Lindemann

Earth Day 2009

I’ve just completed participation in a four month immersion and Social Media campaign that allowed for a new view on planet “earth.” Garnering a greater awareness of people, projects, and campaigns, from around the world, that are extremely innovative, and have been constructed in that we might diminish our “impact” and footprint on planet earth, I am now introduced to the works of Michael Jantzen, and am, simply put, astounded, by the work of this highly innovative designer.

Introduced to Michael, via colleague, DR Rawson, CEO of C4 World Wide Finance, I am pleased to be able to share the collections of this spectacular and “cutting edge” artist and designer. It is essential before you read another word, to “go” to his website, give yourself an hour of time, and review the content that is there.

My personal favorites are the “M” house, which is capable of being assembled, placed, and is “mobile.”

The other is the “Malibu Video Beach House.”

This is my favorite, over all, and am seriously thinking, not only do I want to LIVE here, but I would wish to construct duplicate models in the first of many locations, to house “New World Galleries.” I’ve been dreaming about “digital” and virtually connected galleries for many, many years, and this is not only the perfect venue, but fulfills the design specs that I have been dreaming about in my head…Extremely clean lines, and extremely innovative presentation for digital visual imagery….

As I write today’s article, I can barely keep myself focused long enough to contain my excitement. Its one of those AHA moments, that are rare, yet profound, and where one knows that one’s life is about to change, dramatically.

It is primary to understanding this artist brings to the arts and to the world of architecture, a revolution in design. His works are simply “out of this world,” functional and contemporary.

I readily understand clearly why he has been featured in the venues like MOMA, and others.

The name, Frank Lloyd Wright, is known to all of us and I have not been aware of significant innovation in design for single family homes, since the acceptance and ongoing recognition of FLW, as a significant innovator.

Michael Jantzen is the new wave in innovative, artistic, energy – efficient, green building for the private and public sector, unsurpassed in 30 years of review, and research.

www.michaeljantzen.com

Please give yourself the time to review this man’s work. I believe, that his work, and 30 years of development, is a collection, whose time has come.
