THE NET-TECH REPORT: 4 Ways To Build Your Prospect List - For F-r-e-e!

The Net-Tech Report with Chris Kauza

You may have heard the saying, “The Money Is In The List!”. What this means is that your greatest source of revenue is likely to come from customers who have previously purchased from you. These are proven buyers for you – because they have already made a purchase from you. And by building and maintaining a relationship with them, you have the opportunity to increase your business at an average cost of sales that will tend to be much lower than that associated with new customers.

So what are some ways you can develop a good customer list? Here are four effective and F-R-E-E ways to get you started...
  1. Article marketing – written articles published in an online venue (such as ezine articles or The National Networker) enhance your professional credibility. You have the opportunity to share what you know with others, and to enhance your credibility at the same time. People do business with people they Know / Like ? Trust (The KLT Factor). When they read your writing in a magazine, they become more interested in you and more convinced that your company is the right one for the job. Writing and submitting helpful, quality articles to reputable article directories is very effective. For added Search Engine Optimization (SEO) benefit, include a resource box at the end of your articles that contains a link to your blog or a web page, where readers can then register to be included in your lists.

  2. Social media marketing – Millions of people use social networking sites every single day, with Twitter and Facebook currently being two of the most popular. Connect with people within your target market. Provide them with information that they are interested in, and you will be able to promote and introduce them to your list. Done well, this is “Permission-based Marketing” at its finest.

  3. Blogging – This is a very effective strategy for building your list. Just write blog entries that are 300 – 500 words in length, on topics that relate to your market. Write about topics that provide value to readers and clients. At the end of each post, or whenever someone posts a comment, give them the opportunity to opt-in to your list.

  4. Offer a gift or a freebieeverybody likes “getting something for nothing”. For everyone who opts-in to your list, you can given them a good reason for joining your list – it could be a special offer or discount for VIP members (i.e. - those people who are on your list), a free whitepaper or report, or even a special tool or software application. This is a time-tested way to get prospects who have undergone some level of qualification, onto your distribution list.
These are just some of the things you can do to grow your customer list – get creative! Take a look at your business through your customer's eyes and see what they are missing, what problems they have or questions they are seeking answers to. Then, take your best information and give it to them for FREE!!! You'll be glad you did!

THE NET-TECH REPORT: How to Use Twitter as a Mini Blog

The Net-Tech Report with Chris Kauza

Have you started using a mini-blog? Most people often feel dissatisfied with the limited number of characters that are offered for each ‘post’. Twitter gives you 140 characters in Twitter- what's the best way to use them? The best way to use them is to view Twitter as a "miniature blog", where you can write your own personal posts. However, Twitter has opened up a vast realm of opportunities for people to inform their readers, and to generate web traffic for their business websites.

Using the Twitter "mini-blog" will keep your content "on message" and focused. It must be precise, brief and compact. You need a grasp of the language in order for people to comprehend you fully within those 140 characters.

There are certain basic differences between a tweet and your blog. Compare your blog to a well-rounded novel, and the tweet to a short story; both are written differently. You can make you blog post as long as you want - exploring all options and addressing all debates possible! When it comes to the tweeting - you need to really focus on what you really want to say?

In fact, though most view the 140 character-limit as a handicap, it can actually help. There are people who are so caught up in their business that they have little time to spare, and publishing regular updates to their blog is nearly impossible. Twitter can be very useful, by establishing and maintaining regular touch with their community.

When it comes to business mini-blogs, you have to filter out the non essentials and write an attractive post. Include your blog/website URL in your Twitter profile to direct the web traffic generated by your tweet to your main website. There will be people who will are interested enough to browse through to your website - and Twitter provides a great introduction for this. Plus, a tweet is so small that a reader has no option but to read it in its entirety!

In order to use Twitter effectively, try to regard it as a special preview of your own website or business blog, which requires thought. It's not just another opportunity to generate web-traffic; it's also an opportunity to reinforce your position of authority in your market. Whether you are selling products, services or information, Twitter helps interested readers find your website and engage with you / your brand.

Posing questions to your readers is a GREAT way to engage them. Not everything has to be a question; you should intersperse them with information updates, retweeting and sharing links from others, etc. Another advantage of this question method is that it lets you have some new and creative ideas from those readers, ultimately creating an audience that is interested and engaged in the success of your brand and your website.

KENSEL TRACY: The Centre of Excellence for Public Sector Marketing in Canada Helps the Public Sector Market

by Kensel Tracy

If you are like me and think that Federal, Provincial or Municipal governments lack marketing expertise, all one needs to do is look at the recent Ontario Government communications fiasco in launching the new Eco Tax in Ontario. The Eco tax is being called a levy by the Provincial government when in reality it’s a surcharge on a purchase that looks a lot like a tax. The government launched this program July 1st and has already had major complaints from both the consumer and retailers. One of Canada’s major retailers Canadian Tire has already told the government it will not be charging the tax because it’s too confusing, complicated, does not provide a service to its customers and is hard to administer. On top of that, the provincial government actually lied to its residents saying that it will cost other $5million dollars for pulling the tax when it has over $73 million taxpayer dollars tied up in investments inside the ad hoc government department that is acting at the custodian of the funds.

The bottom-line for the Provincial Government of Ontario, a major marketing and communications blunder. So why is it that government organizations stumble, when it comes to giving constitutes the right information in a timely manner?

All you need to do is as Jim Mintz from the Centre of Excellence for Marketing in the Public Sector. Jim has dedicated his life to marketing, primarily in the public sector with Health Canada where he launched some of Canada’s most successful health campaigns. When it came time to retire, Jim left the government and setup of the Centre. CEPSM as it is called helps all kinds of public sector clients learn the ins and outs of marketing to Canadians. Jim’s group now consists of 17 associates many who had notable public sector careers in marketing, communications and advertising along with a team of younger associates that run the Centre’s Social Media, Web and advertising divisions.

Jim also taught marketing at Carleton University up until last year and regularly gives seminars and workshops on New and Social Media and Social Marketing which includes modifications of habits, beliefs, actions and views about many of the country’s major social and health issues. Jim eats, sleeps and talks marketing. He has developed strategies and launched campaigns for health, public safety, and has taught clients from almost every level of government on how to market their programs and services.

The Centre also has affiliated offices in Regina, Calgary, Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa. So the next time you see a public figure, group or organization needing help in marketing or communicating, give The Centre of Excellence for Public Sector Marketing a call. They can be found on the web at http://www.publicsectormarketing.ca/ or contact Jim directly at jim.mintz@publicsectormarketing.ca
