How To Write a Great Blog Post | THE NET-TECH REPORT

Chris Kauza
The Net-Tech Report with Chris Kauza

This is a question that stumps many people as they try to manage the balancing act of getting great content out to their audience, and keeping their site frequently updated. They will put a blog on their website, they’ll make sure it looks great – and then they will get stumped when they try to figure out how to post some great content on it! Learning how to write a great blog post comes with practice and you will soon start to get a feel for the sort of content people like to read (trust me – we’ve ALL have some posts “out there” in the Internet that we secretly feel are pretty bad!), however here is some advice to get you started - and the best first step is to “just get started!” Here’s how…

A great blog post must contain the content people want in the style that your target audience wants to read it in. Sounds pretty straightforward (unless you’re the obsessive-compulsive type who worries whether or not it is written in the “right “ style, uses the “right” words, etc. – it’s really easy to over-think this stuff – don’t!). Your first job is to establish what the hot topics are in your niche. You might already have a pretty good idea of what people enjoy, but if not go and do a little research. Visit other blogs which are similar to yours and identify the popular posts which get loads of comments. Also look at the structure of posts, their tone of voice, style and the type of vocabulary they use.

Remember that people usually read a blog to be informed about a particular subject - but if you can help they actually ENJOY reading it, they will read all the way thro0guh, may comment at the end, and will probably come back for more! Often the best blog posts are totally random and are about something which happened to you in real life that in some way relates to your subject. “It’s relatable”, in some way. People love gossip and experiences (“reality TV”, anyone?). Let your personality shine through as much as you can. Make people feel like they ‘know’ you – post pictures, videos, spontaneous thoughts about life etc and over time you will develop your own style.

Here are some tips for writing blog posts:
  • The title of your post is important. Ideally it should intrigue the reader and make them want to read your post. You can do this by making a controversial statement or simply by asking a question or making a thought-provoking statement – depending on the type of post it is you are making.
  • Keep your paragraphs short as people are generally put off by huge chunks of text.
  • Use questions to engage the reader.
  • Add bullet points to highlight key information.
  • Add pictures and videos to keep people interested and to inject some personality into your blog post.
  • Encourage readers to comment and give you their own thoughts.

These sound simple enough – until you actually get in front of that keyboard and start pounding away at those keys. Don’t worry if it takes you some time – relax, be yourself & have fun.

…THAT really is the secret to getting a great blog post out there!

THE NET-TECH REPORT: 4 Ways To Build Your Prospect List - For F-r-e-e!

The Net-Tech Report with Chris Kauza

You may have heard the saying, “The Money Is In The List!”. What this means is that your greatest source of revenue is likely to come from customers who have previously purchased from you. These are proven buyers for you – because they have already made a purchase from you. And by building and maintaining a relationship with them, you have the opportunity to increase your business at an average cost of sales that will tend to be much lower than that associated with new customers.

So what are some ways you can develop a good customer list? Here are four effective and F-R-E-E ways to get you started...
  1. Article marketing – written articles published in an online venue (such as ezine articles or The National Networker) enhance your professional credibility. You have the opportunity to share what you know with others, and to enhance your credibility at the same time. People do business with people they Know / Like ? Trust (The KLT Factor). When they read your writing in a magazine, they become more interested in you and more convinced that your company is the right one for the job. Writing and submitting helpful, quality articles to reputable article directories is very effective. For added Search Engine Optimization (SEO) benefit, include a resource box at the end of your articles that contains a link to your blog or a web page, where readers can then register to be included in your lists.

  2. Social media marketing – Millions of people use social networking sites every single day, with Twitter and Facebook currently being two of the most popular. Connect with people within your target market. Provide them with information that they are interested in, and you will be able to promote and introduce them to your list. Done well, this is “Permission-based Marketing” at its finest.

  3. Blogging – This is a very effective strategy for building your list. Just write blog entries that are 300 – 500 words in length, on topics that relate to your market. Write about topics that provide value to readers and clients. At the end of each post, or whenever someone posts a comment, give them the opportunity to opt-in to your list.

  4. Offer a gift or a freebie – everybody likes “getting something for nothing”. For everyone who opts-in to your list, you can given them a good reason for joining your list – it could be a special offer or discount for VIP members (i.e. - those people who are on your list), a free whitepaper or report, or even a special tool or software application. This is a time-tested way to get prospects who have undergone some level of qualification, onto your distribution list.
These are just some of the things you can do to grow your customer list – get creative! Take a look at your business through your customer's eyes and see what they are missing, what problems they have or questions they are seeking answers to. Then, take your best information and give it to them for FREE!!! You'll be glad you did!

THE NET-TECH REPORT: 5 Easy Ways of Monetizing Your Blog

The Net-Tech Report with Chris Kauza

The last few months we talked about why you should be blogging and what are some good ways to get ideas for a blog. And as much as blogging can be lots of fun, as business owners we need to be able to make money and get exposure for our businesses. Blogging is a great way of making money online, driving traffic to your websites and capturing the email addresses of your prospects.

Here are 5 easy ways of monetizing your blog today:

1. Add an opt-in box

If you are building a mailing list (and you REALLY should be) then in my opinion this is the single best way of monetizing your blog. Why? Because you are giving your opinions and information on your blog, and if people like what you write, you will immediately begin to have rapport with you – even if they DON'T like what you write, you can create engagement with them, by responding to their comments (and sometimes being a little controversial can be a GOOD thing!). Simply add an opt-in box to your blog page and begin capturing the names and email addresses of your visitors. After they have opted-in you can immediately create a more meaningful relationship with them, and be of greater service to them. In some cases, you may want to add an offer for one of your products or services, but in all cases the dominate question you should be asking them I, “How can I be of service to you? How can I add more value to your business and your life?” From the perspective of “making sales” - your customer list is your most valuable asset. It's not the numbers of subscribers you have, so much as it is the value of the relationship they feel they have with you.

2. Google Adsense

This is probably one of the easiest ways of monetizing your blog – simply sign up for a Google Adsense account. You get paid a small amount of money every time somebody clicks on one of the ads. Nothing more complicated than that. The only thing to keep in mind is that you CANNOT click on the ads that are on your site, as that will violate the Terms of Service, and you account will be banned.

3. Links to your own products and affiliate products

Links can be placed within the body text of your blog posts or within the actual blog template. If you don’t have your own products to sell then you could consider posting links to other peoples' products or services. Suppose you wrote a post about blogging (like this one, for example). You could recommend an email marketing product or course which you know could be useful to your audience. If someone clicks on that link and purchases the product or service, you will make some money

4. Selling ad space on your site

Once you reach a point where your blog is receiving a decent amount of traffic and has a good readership, you can start selling advertising space on your blog. People like advertising on blogs because the visitors are usually very interested in the topic being discussed (so it's highly targeted traffic), and if the content is good with a strong following, people will come back to see what's new, on a regular basis.

5. Selling your blog

Yes, you can actually sell your blog to someone else, once you've built it to a point where it has some value. A blog which makes money is highly valuable to other marketers and there are many people who run businesses buying and selling blogs. You might want to consider creating a blog with the sole intention of selling it.

One thing to keep in mind is that the FTC put forth a set of guidelines last year, to help protect US consumers from deceptive business practices. While they do not have the full force of regulations, it is a good idea for businesses to keep these in mind when doing ANY kind of marketing online. Generally speaking, don't lie or otherwise deceptively mislead your market about your products or services. Do good work, talk about the benefits and you should be okay letting the quality of your work speak for itself.

Personally, I blog and write articles because it's an enjoyable way for me to share my message about things I like (business, online topics, technologies, people, etc.) with a larger audience. If you found this post useful, feel free to share this with your friends.
