POWER THOUGHT OF THE WEEK: E-Volunteering to Build Powerful Networks, Part 2

Power Thought of the Week with Patricia Parham, Ph.D.

E-Volunteering: Web Design and Ancillary Services Provide High Visibility
Web presence is a valued commodity and the ability to design interactive, engaging websites that elicit lots of hits is a valuable service and product to those who lack these skills. Animated graphics, UTube, and language translations are options that make non-profit and small companies appear savvy and sophisticated. Endear your company to them and earn generous praise, referrals and exposure of your logo to their target audience.

POWER THOUGHT OF THE WEEK: E-Volunteering to Build Powerful Networks, Part 4

Power Thought of the Week with Patricia Parham, Ph.D.

E-Volunteering: Communicating Leads to Knowledge of Core Issues
Writing emails, e-zines and press releases, proofreading information to be posted, setting up chat rooms, on-line forums, blogs and other internet activities gives knowledge of the client and how they interface with the public and stakeholders. It exposes the strengths of the relationships and areas needing improvement. Use this information to tailor e-mentoring, e-coaching, or professional services to help solve legal, financial, managerial or administrative problems and to maximize strengths and opportunities.

PEOPLE, POWER AND POSSIBILITIES: Give It Up

People, Power and Possibilities with Donna Fisher

At our "Women Who Rock" event last week, women were asked to give up the things that hold them back. Because if you're going to "rock" then you've got to give up holding back, downplaying your strengths, and doubting yourself.

Give It Up! Give up the hesitation to follow your heart. Give up the negative self-talk that is habitual useless chatter. Give up speaking words of disempowerment (to yourself and others). Give up hiding, downplaying and dismissing your magnificence!

We can only be of greatest value to one another when we truly value ourselves. When you truly value yourself, you will naturally share more of what you have to offer with others. When you truly start making powerful connections, your world will rock.

I saw this happen. As women began to "Give Up" the things holding them back and began to focus on their strengths and skills, they began to stand more erect, approach people more confidently and speak more assertively. They began to share information, ideas and resources that truly made a difference in each other's lives. They became energized and alive.

The things that get in our way are typically "habitual" thoughts and behaviors that have become so ingrained that we think those thoughts and behaviors are us! But they aren't. They are simply thoughts and behaviors. They are thoughts and behaviors that we can "Give Up"! And we can choose new, more productive, more empowering, more authentic thoughts and behaviors that have us stand tall, speak up and be powerful resources in our communities.

Being a Woman Who Rocks is about showing up and speaking up, honoring your strengths and skills, being a source of positive energy in the world.

If you're going to rock, you've got to "step up to the mic" and give it your all!

Networking is Building Community, Part 2

Power Thought of the Week

By Patricia Parham, Ph.D.
Contributing Writer

Opposites Compliment

Knowing persons with an opposite approach to your business often leads to competition and avoidance. This person, however, might be your best partner – especially if both of you are successful. What could you learn from one another? Do you come across clients more open to their way of doing business? And vice-versa? Would you benefit from a formal referral relationship? Look for value in unexpected places.

Networking is Building Community, Part 1

Power Thought of the Week

By Patricia Parham, Ph.D.
Contributing Writer

Power Networking

Think of networking as community building. Visualize community as all persons within the area connected to each other, directly or indirectly, like a huge spider web. Communities gain strength when the connections are conscious, concrete and constructive. Look for linkages everywhere – in opposing ideologies and approaches, as well as in complementary ones. Each one’s success or failure impacts us all.
