Interview with DC Cordova ─ Part Two
Please describe once again how you got started along this path?
“I was a court reporter in the California and Hawaii court systems. And I was looking for my purpose: I was looking for something greater to do out of my work I was doing for the EST organization and later with Sondra Ray around rebirthing. And she gave me a powerful affirmation, which was:
‘I now manifest the Divine Plan of my life.’
It was Sondra Ray herself who had introduced me to Marshall Thurber and Bobbie De Porter ─ the people who had created the first business school for entrepreneurs of its kind in the 70s out of work they were actually doing in their very successful Real Estate company called Hawthorne-Stone.”
I remember hearing about Hawthorne-Stone. I was around in those days ─ I’d even seen Marshall Thurber in person!
“… so when I found this work, I knew it had been created for me out of the affirmations I was doing. I knew it was my life’s work!
Then, through a series of circumstances, I ended up not only attending their business school but then supporting them ─ and then I became a partner, and eventually I inherited all the work. So I got started out of me having a combination of good business sense, good business skills, and also the metaphysical skills.”
So – amid all these tremendous changes you’ve experienced – was there a time of breakthrough: a turning point when you chose to change your course? I’m always fascinated hearing about people’s transformations and quantum leaps!
“Specific turning points? Let’s see. I would say there were three primary ones.”
Three?
“Yes. Of course there were many smaller ones as well. Here is the first: In 1976 I was a successful court reporter in the L.A. system. I started when I was 24. Then I saw many things in the court system that were very disappointing for me, so I moved to Hawaii and started working as a court reporter there.
But then I began to RE-create my Universe ─ the same one I left in L.A. Same old stuff! And I began to get a hint that maybe there was one thing happening: and this one thing was simply that I was always there in the midst of it! And so I was starting to realize ’Maybe we do create our own reality?’ Except I didn’t have those specific words. Actually at that time I had nothing metaphysical; I had only read As a Man Thinketh and that famous book on Psycho-Cybernetics.”
The book by Maxwell Maltz?
“That’s the one! Those were the only two things I’d read. So in 1976 I was being a court reporter and also party girl – I lived on Maui, I had a wonderful boyfriend named Bob Moon; I was sailing around the Islands. We went on a wonderful month long trip on a yacht, and suddenly I had this enlightenment experience on the island of Kauai on Hanalei Bay.”
An enlightenment experience!
“Yes! Now basically I had become pretty sober for the first time in years. I wasn’t drinking; I was out in the middle of magnificent nature… And I had this experience of having a connection with God ─ after having been heartbroken for eight years because my first love, Larry Fancher, died when I was 18 years old, and I lost his baby four months later, after he died. “
Oh, I’m so sorry!“So I was devastated and closed my heart and became a workaholic. I became very successful: had a lot of money by the time I was 24.
And so when I had this enlightenment experience, I heard this beautiful voice inside my head, in my heart that said, ‘I didn’t put you in this world to be a party girl. You have a job to do!’ And it was like ’What???’ And I had this experience that was very mystical, with me being one with God ─ but I didn’t know that’s what it was then. And I was seeing my whole life, seeing the whole world… I actually thought I was dying. I went through my whole life, and everything started making sense: my boyfriend dying, my other friend, what I had seen in court ─ yes, that certainly was a breakthrough!”Very powerful!
“I came back from that experience and I went back to Honolulu and started working as a court reporter again. I went through an agency, and the very first case I was sent on was the State of Hawaii vs. the EST organization, for practicing psychology without a license.” Oh my God ─ that’s perfect!
”…And I basically sat in front of six or seven of their topmost people -- the only top person who wasn’t there was Werner Erhard ─ and I ended up being enrolled into EST. A friend of mine had done the Training in the early 70s, and I said to them, ‘EST? A friend of mine did that!’ Before I knew it I was signing a check to them ─ and couple of weeks later I was sitting in the EST Training!"
So then this was your second major breakthrough?
“Yes ─ it was a matter of my having that enlightenment experience, and then amazingly, right on the heels of that, coming in contact with this organization that would turn my life in the right direction!
My work with them took me through the technology of transformation ---and I have been doing that every since. That was 33 years ago! “
And the third breakthrough?
“My third major one was meeting Bucky Fuller, Marshall Thurber, and Bobbie De Porter -- and then meeting my mentors in Asia. “
What huge turning points! Now ─at present time ─ which of your projects are you most excited about?
“I’m actually passionate about bringing our Money & You® program to North America. We’re very big all over China, Singapore, all over the Orient --- Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Brunei: all over the Asia Pacific region. I really feel that North America is in high need of our program. So that’s what I’m most passionate about in regard to business.
In regard to education, to my mission, what I am very excited about is ─ well, let me give you an example. There was an article in Fast Company in May -- called ‘What Harvard Doesn’t Know’ ‘or ‘Doesn’t Teach’ or some such (you can look it up.) It’s an article about Harvard all about what they do, and all these amazing educators that are now getting into education. And in there, the last paragraph, that article literally says that education is a thousand years old, because our students are learning the same way as Socrates, from people up front reading to them and not using technology. So the other thing that’s so exciting to me is that we now seem to be finding a whole bunch of allies that are creating transformation in this world. So those are my two favorite projects.
I’m wondering about your courses in Asia. Do you teach those?
"Oh no. I don’t teach ─I’m the CEO. No, we have several Chinese partners… and then we have real entrepreneurs that teach the Money & You program. We have many different entrepreneurs that teach – they are not trainers by career: they are actually entrepreneurs that build their own companies. Now one of my instructors here in the States is Kerrie Zurrier who, out of her work in the non-profit field, became a master coach and trains other coaches. But originally she’s a business woman. So, that’s what happens in North America."
So this next course that’s coming up in L.A. ─ who is teaching that?
"Actually it’s Kerrie Zurrier."
I’m glad you are having this upcoming course here on the West Coast, in North America.
"Well, I’ve always wanted to! It’s just that I keep being pulled to Asia.”
How much of your work is focused specifically toward women?
“Number One: We are a women-run organization! Three of my partners are women, one is a male. Our programs are male-oriented but the world has changed: nearly 50% of American households are now financed by women: single women!
And ─ much more women are now attending. I actually go out and speak to women, but my tendency is to want to bring women into our programs Students in transformational money programs used to be mostly men ─ but now this is changing. I have actually sent women to certain programs: that is, recommended them to the leaders.”
How do you mean?
“I see these amazing programs where there are 30 men and one woman, and I go talk to the leaders about that – and then they say to me: ‘But where can we get women? There are no women!’ And I tell them: ‘Call me! I know all kinds of amazing women on this planet! I know all kinds of powerful, wealthy, successful women ─ I can get you women! You need to change your curriculum!’ “
That’s great!
“I am always an advocate and lobbyist for women. I aim to awaken women from the victim patterns they have been living in. I am very tough with them about that. I myself am fortunate that I come from a family of women entrepreneurs!
That’s one of the things I like about Suzie Orman: even though she’s very conservative in her teachings and has a middle-class mentality about money, the good thing is, she points out that women tend to put others first, to not take care of themselves; also, women have a tendency to volunteer -- often to their own detriment. So, bottom line, I’d like to awaken women from being victims to being the source of their own power. I’m in a constant state of doing that.”
Well, DC, you certainly are a great role model for being on the success track early in life!
“I was put on the success track by my family. I came from a family of women entrepreneurs who came from success, were used to success. So in a sense I was not made by myself: I came from that stock. ─ Now, if you like, we can move on to your next question.”
All right! So ─what are some of the ways or places in which you promote your enterprise?
“Networking -- Meeting people of influence and leveraging myself. Also, by identifying people who support my work, are aligned with my work, and getting into joint ventures with them.
The bulk of my money comes from royalties – I am already leveraged in that. But when I come to North America, I am a worker again. It depends on the different areas of your business. You have to really understand business and marketing.
I am not good at marketing ─ I am a great promoter, which is very different from being a marketer, which is very different area. You have to know the various areas of business: you have to be educated in business.”
Now: Whom / what does your network currently include? How far does your network extend?
“I’ve already mentioned all the countries in the Asia Pacific region… We have doors that are waiting to open in the Middle East and also in Europe. Actually, I know almost all the transformational leaders in the seminar industry, in the world.”All I can say is Wow!
And now my next question: What has been the best about building a network? Actually, I think you’ve already covered a great deal of that.
“In this context, I think it’s important you tell people: Be sure to go to high-level, highly leverage-able people: people who will leverage your purpose, your mission, your work!”
Well, that’s certainly sage advice! Now ─ what challenges (if any) have you found in your networking experiences?
“Not being clear what I am about used to be a challenge.”
How so?
“It used to be a challenge when people asked me: ‘What do you really do?’ Given I do several things, my answers would sounding confusing. Recently I’ve started to say ‘I do three different things: one, two, three!’, and then list them separately. That works very well: it now sounds clear! People especially love my Number 3: my humanitarian work. And you can see that actually all three of the things I’m about are related, connected, but in order to be clear it’s best to speak of them separately. That’s what’s working for me.” What else do you feel is really working well for you, your company?
“Following the principles. Doing things for the sake contribution. Adding value. Always remember: Do not focus on money first – focus on the value first.”
What’s the achievement, the accomplishment you’re most proud of at this time?
“I’m most proud of the fact that so many people are now out there promulgating facts on left / right brain teaching techniques AND creating transformation in the world. I am proud to say that all of these people have been students of our programs, and then gone on to create their own! T. Harv Eker is only one of many notable examples ─ he learned so much from us; he has taken all of our programs, and built on that. Robert Kiyosaki also, and many others. I’m proud to say that if you look at any good business transformational programs with left/right brain teaching techniques, they have been students of ours or have been trained by students of ours.”
What are your plans and goals for the future ─ organizational, personal ─ especially regarding networking activities?
“Here’s what’s next for me:
I am expanding the North American business. I want to finally publish our Money & You book, and I continue creating the Money and You Foundation (though we are already quietly contributing to a variety of causes).
Also, my goal is to be completely leveraged out of my companies within five years so I can be free to devote my time to humanitarian causes.” That’s exciting, DC! In conclusion, anything you’d like to add ─ some words of encouragement, inspiration for our readers?
“I’ve already given you plenty of encouragement and inspiration earlier”, DC laughs. That’s definitely true! I laugh. So ─ I suppose this is a good place for me to end by saying a huge THANK YOU, DC!
“You are so welcome, Ann. I wish you all the best for your goals and dreams. When I see on the web the work you’ve done, I say to myself: ‘Here is a woman doing her purpose!’”
Thank you, DC ─ once again, you’ve made my day!
