***The Results of the PDDS Survey Are In!

TNNW Surveys, Analyses and Findings

The Results of the PDDS* Survey Are In! [Survey# 2009081]
* PDDS is an acronym coined by Douglas Castle (a frequent lingovator) for "Perceived Data Deficiency Syndrome." This is ultimately a condition where an individual feels that he or she has less information, or has access to too little information to be able to perform his or her job to a high level of effectiveness. Although we are inundated with information through multiple media sources, we are inclined to 1) be deafened by the din, and therefore unable to distinguish any of those messages which may be important to us, or 2) to feel that others are getting better, clearer, more useful information than we are getting.

TNNW is co-sponsoring a series of daily, weekly and monthly surveys in conjunction with Mr. Scott R. Gingold, a veteran pollster, industry consultant and the Founding Principal of both Powerfeedback (http://www.powerfeedback.com/) and Confidential Counselor (http://www.confidentialcounsellor.com/).

These are the results of our first survey together.

This week, under the topic of Perceived Data Deficiency Syndrome (PDDS), we ask:

"Everywhere we look there is a plethora of information available. Given this, we were wondering, do you regularly have enough information to effectively and fully do your job?"

Thanks in advance for your support and for continuing to make our community even stronger and more valuable.
---------------------------
The survey was published in TNNW, on Linked In, various Yahoo! Groups, Facebook, numerous topical blogs and Twitter, and the responses came from a mixture of these media, but principally, and notably from members of Linked In [Note: if you'd like to see this table in a larger typeface, simply click on http://www.mediafire.com/?kzvky0jwtmu for a full page download. You can print the download if you wish]

Brief analysis: Of the respondents, 65.52% thought that you received, or were receiveing sufficient information in order to execute their job functions effectively. The remainder of respondents were equally divided between "No" and "Somewhat." The general impression which we are getting is that a large percentage of the respondent population (approximately one third) are feeling the effects of PDDS. We would like to know your hypotheses for this seeming lack of confidence amongst so many information-inundated people. If you have a theory (or even a plausible hypothesis), just drop us an email at adam@TheNationalNetworker.com, being certain to put "SURVEY #2009081" in the subject line of your note. Your input is very important to THE NATIONAL NETWORKER.

If you'd prefer (and if your browser makes it visible), you can just fill in the nifty little form below and click "SUBMIT".

We will be conducting frequent surveys about topics of great interest to our Subscribers and Members and publishing the results regularly. Surveys and polls are not only an interesting means of finding out about what other people or entities are thinking or doing -- they are a powerfully effective means of conducting preliminary market research, and of actually conducting marketing activity by making your interviewee (a potential client or customer) proactive in the process. Interestingly, this wonderful tool gives you a means of letting the market tell you precisely what it wants. Success can be a self-fulfilling prophesy for your product, brand or company.

TNNW will be adding a full range of these market research, surveys, polls and other tools to its roster of services within the next two weeks. Please stay tuned for our announcement. Scott Gingold has opened up a whole new world for all of us.

Dreaming for just a moment, can you imagine the incredible power of combining market research, surveys and news releases? Hmmm.....

***Information About New TNNW Members: Lightshop Design, of Malaysia and Global Edge Technologies Group LLC (USA)

News Release: SPEEDLIGHT PRO KIT MANUFACTURER AWARDS US FIRM EXCLUSIVE RIGHTS.

THIS ARTICLE ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED BY THE NATIONAL NETWORKER Newsletter, and is reproduced with permission.

We, at THE NATIONAL NETWORKER COMPANIES, are delighted to announce that we have acquired a new Member, Global Edge Technologies Group LLC (http://www.GetGlobalEdge.com), an international import company which has just received the distinction of being appointed the Exclusive US Distributor and Representative for Lightshop Design of Malaysia. Lightshop Design, our first Malaysian TNNW Member, has created, patented and manufactures a revolutionary speedlight kit for both professional photographers and hobbyists (http://SpeedlightProKitUSA.blogspot.com) that is superior, in every aspect, to existing (and much more expensive) photographic lighting technology. Joe Chan and Dennis Kok, the Principals of Lightshop Design are selling their product in the overseas market. The product is receiving rave reviews by every single photographer who has had an opportunity to use it. It creates a full spectrum of lighting effects in any environment, under virtually under any conditions. Speedlight ProKit is completely modular, portable, foldable (it flattens out for storage like Japanese origami) and takes only minutes to set up and take apart. It costs less than 20% of other units which are not even remotely close in their capabilities and elegance of design. Global Edge Technologies Group is now qualifying photographic equipment dealers to become Authorized Speedlight ProKit Dealers.

Our Press Release, Public relations and Publicity Affiliate (http://tnnw1.blogspot.com/) provided the two companies with their first major US press release. As of this writing, the release is less than 7 days old, and has already created in excess of 15,000 headline impressions already! You can download yesterday's publication stats by clicking on http://twitlik.com/SPEEDLIGHTPROKIT1

Welcome aboard, Global Edge Technologies...we hope that will give our Membership (a number of whom are in the photography supply and accessories business) first consideration for Authorized Dealerships! -- ADAM J. KOVITZ

Speedlight Pro Kit Manufacturer Awards US Firm Exclusive Rights

Lightshop Design, Malaysian - Based Manufacturer of Specialized Photography Products, has Appointed Global Edge Technologies Group LLC its Exclusive Distributor in the USA.

Westchester, New York (PRWEB) August 27, 2009 -- Lightshop Design, the entrepreneurial firm which created Speedlight Pro Kit™, announced yesterday that it had selected Global Edge Technologies Group to be its exclusive distributor and representative in the US. Speedlight Pro Kit™ is the innovative ultra-portable lighting accessory which has been gathering a fast-growing following among photography professionals throughout the world (http://SpeedlightProKitUSA.blogspot.com).

Joe Chan, one of Lightshop Design's principals and a well-respected professional photographer himself said, "I originally developed the Kit as a lighting solution for my own photo shoots out of sheer necessity. At that time, none of the major manufacturers had a lighting effects solution which was portable and versatile enough to meet my needs as a professional photographer on the go. A photographer needs a variety of special lighting filters, baffles and effects to address every possible ambient lighting situation that he may encounter. The Kit is a modular, all-in-one, lightweight utility that sets up and packs up in minutes; it can travel anywhere and can provide virtually any special lighting effect required. It is also very affordable. Nothing compares with it.

"Dennis (co-principal, Dennis Kok) immediately saw the enormous international market potential for our product line, and started marketing it through word of mouth and several individual equipment dealers. Once the product reviews started to come in, we simply couldn't meet the demand. We partnered with Get Global Edge (Global Edge Technologies Group LLC at http://www.GetGlobalEdge.com) to help us establish and coordinate a network of authorized dealers to deliver our growing list of products to the enormous US marketplace."

Get Global Edge, a Member of The National Networker Companies, is busily qualifying US-based dealers. Adam J. Kovitz, Founder of the National Networker Companies and an advisor to Get Global Edge, was clearly delighted: "This product is like the all-in-one Swiss Army Knife. It seems so simple, but it does so much; it is elegant and efficient. And the high-volume trade arrangement between the two companies will keep the price low while the product quality and service will be top-notch." The National Networker Companies are a major advocate of "citizen ambassadorship" through international joint venturing.

Dealer and other inquiries regarding Get Global Edge or Lightshop Design should be addressed directly to 888-317-6498.

***New TNNW Member: ICON JET, LLC

New Member: ICON JET, LLC

We are delighted to welcome ICON JET, LLC, to the esteemed ranks of our TNNW Company Members. Eric Haymes, the Co-Founder and CEO of ICON is the quintessential entrepreneur. He dreams big dreams, and he goes out and makes them into reality. It's Eric's obsession with implementation that sets him abart from the legions of self-professed "entrepreneurs" who are far too busy reading about the Law Of Attraction to actually make presentations to lending institutions and equity groups. He looks for opportunities with the keen eye of a contrarian -- he understands value, and is a true bargain hunter. ICON JET. LLC has created an executive charter jet business to fill the void left by all of the traditionalists and "contractionists" (a lingovation!) who would rather leave their aircraft in the hangar until the economy gets "sorted out" -- by then, as every TNNW Subscriber knows, it will be far too late. Mr. Haymes will have had the jump on the rest of the pack.

A sampling of printings of a first news release which TNNW orchestrated for ICON JET, LLC as part of its publicity and public relations campaign are listed as hyperlinks below. Click on any of them and see what ICON and TNNW are doing together. ICON is using our News Release service in combination with our TNNW BUZZWORKS Media Domination Team. Icon Jet: Soaring Above the Recession

In an Economy Where Many Businesses are Pulling in Their Wings, ICON JET is Flying Its Niche Clientele Amidst Unstoppable Demand

Los Angeles (PRWEB) August 27, 2009 -- Part of the intuitive magic of any visionary is in his ability to see past the crisis and into the future. Mr. Eric Haymes, CEO of ICON JET, LLC (http://www.iconjet.com/ ), a recent member of The National Networker, has always been a rebel in terms of leading where others are afraid to go. His company, Icon, is a VIP executive charter aircraft service which caters to heads of state, royal families, diplomats, corporate executives, professional athletes and, of course, to movie idols and rock stars. Icon delivers unique and unparalleled service to its special clientele.

These seemingly diverse groups have several key elements in common: they are uncompromising in terms of comfort and quality; they are prepared to pay a premium for the finest, personalized service; and, they are wealthy. And there are more of them than you would think. Demand in the "affluent market" is still alive, and growing. Icon's flagship aircraft is a luxurious, roomy and stunningly-appointed Boeing 737-VIP 30 - passenger aircraft which can carry these clients to virtually any destination, either domestically or internationally.

Envision a 125-passenger sized aircraft, beautifully retrofitted and redesigned to accommodate only 30 privileged passengers. The quality is easily comparable to that of a Boeing Business Jet or a Gulfstream V, and the charter fees can sometimes exceed $12,000 per hour. The good news for corporate CEOs is that they no longer have to have a "sinful" corporate jet on the books; they can simply smile and say, "I was able to book an Icon Charter." Icon's aircraft are operated by Sky King, Inc., a small international airline with an impeccable record for compliance, pilot excellence and passenger safety.

In a recent television news interview, Mr. Haymes amazed reporters at station KTLA (http://twitlik.com/IconJet ) with a tour of the aircraft. In a business leadership conference conducted by TNNW about niche marketing, Mr. Haymes made this observation: "I saw an unfulfilled demand, with a decreasing supply. With so many investors and lenders backing away from the market, Icon literally has no competition in the US, and has only a handful of competitors internationally. The perceived recession has actually driven the market to us. We look forward to purchasing and converting some additional aircraft for charter; there are a great many incredible bargains sitting on the ground. Icon would like to dress them up and put them into the sky."

To learn more about Icon Jet, LLC, Mr. Haymes can be reached at 818-906-0027.

It is indeed encouraging to see how vision and ingenuity can enable certain businesses to flourish regardless of the economic climate. Icon is a shining example.

***TNNW BUZZWORKS: These Guys are Seriously Effective

TNNW BUZZWORKS

Yes, indeed. The logo is an epileptic's nightmare. It is garish, and veritably festers with the putrescence of social decay. The motif looks like it should be in neon in the front window of some pick-up bar in an economically blighted area. It is ugly.

The TNNW BUZZWORKS TEAM (the "Buzzards," as we lovingly refer to one another) was finalized a mere two months ago...and in that time, we have performed media, image, branding and SEO miracles. Our group uses a combination of social media savvy, technical knowledge, audacity, creativity, grassroots brute force and laser focus in order to achieve results. And our results are outstanding.

We are:
  • Adam J. Kovitz
  • Rick Itzkowich
  • Yossi Feigenson
  • Thomas C. Kern, and
  • Douglas Castle
  • Wendy L. Kovitz
Want to learn more? Of course you do! Google these things: The National Networker, TNNW, TNNW Buzzworks, or the names of any of the individual Buzzards listed above, and you'll start to see.

Want to understand what we can do? We can take a company or person from position #1,000,000 in a narrow keyword search, and bring that company or person up to #10,000 in four to eight weeks' time. We can take a website or a blog that is getting 50 visits (average) per day, and increase that to more than 500 visits per day within a one month timeframe.

What we can't do is create a quality product line for you; or convert your visitors to customers if you don't have something extra special; or give your customers the type of prompt, courteous efficient service that will keep them returning. The Buzzards can deliver quantity, if we believe that YOU can deliver QUALITY.

SENDING SIGNALS: Stop Watering a Dead Tree! - SUNK COSTS, Part Deux.

DOUGLAS CASTLE - SENDING SIGNALS

Dear Readers (and non-readers who are having this read to them by helpful friends and family members):

Last week I spoke about the downfall of too many ventures -- when creative passion turns to destructive obsession. When we make business decisions regarding our emotional capital invested, instead of regarding the financial consequences, we tend to toss money into the fireplace to heat the mansion. When we become obsessed with "winning back our losses" instead of learning not to repeat the mistakes that led us to them, we are diverted from the path to prosperity and led either to a) bankruptcy; b) hell, or c) careers in federal politics. Acknowledge mistakes and limit your losses.

Yes...this is more easily said than done.

Alec Baldwin and wrote me to thank me for using the "dead tree" metaphor instead of the "flogging a dead horse" metaphor. I was flattered, and touched...perhaps alec is a bit touched as well.

My fellow colleague, philosopher, personal real estate expert, "go-to guy" and author, Yossi Feigenson (also of THE NATIONAL NETWORKER), collected a number a comments regarding the article, and shared some of the best ones with me, so that I might share them with you. This is, in large part, what makes Yossi a superb connector, and an asset to any team. I am glad to have him on mine.

Back to the subject at hand, here is some of the feedback from that last article which Yossi selected to share with me.

Subject: New comment (1) on "EMOTION IN BUSINESS - THE DOUBLE-EDGED SWORD"

Douglas,

Having been involved with small businesses and starting a few of my own I must say yes to your number 5. Ego is an important part of decision making, and every entrepeneur I've ever known has an enormous sense of confidence and puts a lot of stock in his ability to succeed.

When the emotions are high a lot of commitments are made and founders "know" that they are going to make it. The first round of financing is usually spent pretty quickly and usually occurs while the principals are still figuring out their roles. A lot of money is spent building brand and expanding. The prinicipals will start negotiating and arguing about the direction the company should take regarding remaining funds and what to do for following rounds. When the decision is made everyone becomes very personally invested.

A few years ago I convinced my partner, investors, and wife that partnering with a startup company that was providing wireless 802.11g internet access for the San Joaquin valley was a great idea. We would mount the external antennae for them and as an add on service provide the internal networking for the customers. It was a great idea. It was an open market.

Clearwire decided to run our area as one of its test markets. They have wireless systems that only require a small antenna hooked into a USB. No need for external antennas and no need for a 2 year expensive contract. Can you see where this is going?

Stubbornly we pursued this with our partner company. We could even see that it was a throwing good money after bad, but there were lots of rationalizations. We finally folded the business. I still have one of our fleet vehicles, a 2005 Chevy Colorado, as a daily driver. :)

My lesson learned from this situation was to realize that this can happen to anyone, even me. That I should listen to my trusted advisors when they are trying to speak reason. To realize that making the smart decision to pull the plug on a bad or mistimed decision is less painful than trying to avoid looking like a failure. This lesson is still pretty raw but is an important one.

Just a few thoughts from "been there done that." :)

Interesting story that goes the other way. Once Phillips the famous Dutch company was pouring money into a project. Discussions in the board occurred between keeping the money flow or cutting the losses. Actually there where serious recommendations formally made to let go and close the project.

In another year a new industry was created and CDs came to life.

Just to the point that teams and personalities have their way for good and for bad. Some power games kill fantastic projects and products, but other brilliant ones to would never come life if these caracteristics where not there.

Excellent question! I've always wondered why, if blinkers are for horses, then why do so many CEOS wear them? I think you nailed it when you cited ego. I have worked with many leaders who, once hooked onto an idea that they have personally touted as great strategy, simply gallop like crazy not hearing or seeing all the danger signals. They (like a race horse) have no peripheral vision, have a singular goal in mind no matter what, and won't listen to others who are screaming that they're running across a mine field. The answer is difficult. I suggest it requires a leader with the power of self-reflection, trust in others, and who is open to having a personal network of wise advisors who aren't reluctant to ask the wicked questions. Blinkers are great for race horses. Not so much for leaders in a turbulent environment.

BLUE THING 1 - TNNW SURVEYS, ANALYSIS and FINDINGS

TNNW Surveys, Analyses and Findings

With the help of Scott Gingold, we are finalizing our response tally and analysis on our most recent survey. We will publish the results in a SPECIAL MID-WEEK EXTRA BULLETIN. If you haven't already participated in the survey, read what follows, and then DO IT! Be counted -- personally, I have always wanted to be a statistic (kidding).

Welcome to our inaugural weekly poll question! Every week we will post one thought provoking question for you to vote on. We will share the results with you every Sunday as we deliver the latest version of The National Networker (TNNW) Newsletter.

This new feature is being brought to you by The National Networker and Powerfeedback.

This week, under the topic of Perceived Data Deficiency Syndrome (PDDS), we ask:

"Everywhere we look there is a plethora of information available. Given this, we were wondering, do you regularly have enough information to effectively and fully do your job?"

Thanks in advance for your support and continuing to make our community even stronger and more valuable.

A NOTE FROM THE CHAIRMAN: I Hate Douglas Castle

Douglas Castle is sophomoric, neurotic, paranoid, crass and juvenile...

...and those are just his good points.

He also happens to be one of my best friends, blood-brother-in-arms and (I'm ashamed to say this) business partner.

Furthermore, I refuse to mention Douglas' name any more...

...I remember back in the "good old days" when we were a small, relatively-unknown publication.

At least we were respectable. We had good, solid articles about what was happening in the world of networking and IT WAS TOTALLY IN MY CONTROL! No Douglas...no having to check in with anyone to see whether or not I should make a specific change...no mysterious deliveries to my home at 10:00 at night for 10 double-anchovy pizzas...no late night talks about bodily functions...

What started out as a person who I thought was the first major TNNW fan, groupie and stalker (albeit a mostly-harmless one at that) turned out to be my business partner of this medium-sized (soon to be EXTRA medium), more-well-known publication. Since then, this publication has, in my own shameful-to-admit-it opinion, gone DOWN THE TUBES. Quite frankly, I'm ashamed.

I am even more ashamed to announce to my fellow TNNW readers (at Douglas' urging, and with extreme distaste on my part) two new (gulp...is that bile in my throat?) features:

  1. The debut of THE NATIONAL NEWSPICKER (in Beta) - a new one-stop source of all the latest headlines from dozens of premiere news sources, including AP News, The Wall Street Journal, Business Week, Financial Times, Mashable, etc.). Yes...we have gone GREEN (I can't believe he made me say that). Now you can pick your friends, pick your news AND pick your friends' news (please make it stop). Check out this week's UPDATE for more on this revolutionary (yet inappropriately-named) tool.
  2. The attack of the BLUE THINGS - Now after all the articles in our newsletter, we will be regaling you with BLUE THINGS - they're actually rectangular items like TNNW Surveys, Top Buzzed Items and Terms, Top News Stories and Most Memorable Quote of the Week. Again more on our BLUE THINGS in the UPDATE. Why they couldn't be "Sapphire Quadrilaterals of Reader Interest" I will never understand - Douglas just thinks he knows so much about marketing.

Of course you can still get our normal stuff: your favorite writers (and Douglas), your favorite articles and of course me...your lovable, down-to-earth, highly conservative and VERY NORMAL Chairman and Founder.

I just knew I should have listened to my mother when she told me that Douglas was a bad influence...I'm so embarrassed.

As always, I look forward to Networking with you,

Adam

BECAUSE I CAN: Understanding the Networking Revolution

Because I Can with Adam J. Kovitz

“There is only one religion, though there are a hundred versions of it.”

- George Bernard Shaw

Several years ago I predicted a major networking revolution and started a publication about it (you may have heard of it…wink, wink). The networking revolution happened, it’s here and it continues to revolutionize. Nonetheless, what I find ironic is how from time to time I still need to defend the term “networking” despite the fact that it is commonly accepted that one must network to find business, information, jobs, etc., yet most people don’t understand the true nature of networking. Metaphorically, I feel like we as a society spend too much time driving the car without really understanding how it works.

So at risk of my own sanity, my relationship with my wife as well as my partnership with Douglas Castle (who does not care for the word “networking”), I will attempt to “get under the hood” of this jalopy we call “networking” and make sense of it. I will try to do it in a way that is easily understandable – this month I’m leaving the mathematical formulas off to the side.

Why am I doing this?

Because I just can’t shake the feeling that besides getting more business, information and jobs, there is something vast, mysterious and wonderful to this networking thing that is significant, and also…

…because I can!

The Origins of “Networking”

Since Eve first met Adam (distant relative) people have been looking for ways to find business, exchange information, get their next job. They never called it “networking”, though. They would use terms like “talking”, “conversing”, “rapping” or simply “communicating”. So where did the word networking come from?

In 1930’s Jacob Moreno, a psychologist, conducted a study on a group of elementary school students and their interactions. Moreno represented the relationships in what he called a “sociogram”, which depicted a networking structure of a social system, which caused enough interest to be published in the New York Times.

Eventually the term “networking” came to be used in both telecommunications and computing. One communications device on its own is practically useless, but several arranged in a network have increased utility. In 1980, Metcalfe’s Law attempted to mathematically demonstrate this.

It was also around this time that business networking organizations like Ali Lassen’s Leads Clubs (now known as Leads Clubs International), LeTip International and eventually BNI would make the connection that human beings are the most sophisticated computers and communications devices that we know of and that they are capable of being organized into a social structure for the purposes of developing business through cooperative means. This concept became known as business networking.

The growth and popularization of the internet and World Wide Web further revolutionized networking. What had first started as bulletin boards grew into email, blogs and social media thereby giving people the means to develop relationships all over the world. But the implications of this are what astound me.

Theoretical Considerations

Before we get to the implications, we present a major academic obstacle of networking. Despite the fact that networking is important and is the basis for the way we conduct business, solve problems and accomplish goals, why aren’t we studying it more? The answer is that we are – in the emerging field of social network analysis (SNA). If this is the case, where can one go to get a degree in Networking (other than computer networking)?

The answer is: not too many places.

If you pay attention (as I do) to the majority of research done in social network analysis, you will notice that it is a cross-disciplined study that combines areas of computer science, sociology, psychology, communications, anthropology, biology, economics, statistical analysis, geography and even religion.

This is significant to me…it should be for you as well.

What other field of study would be of interest to all these disciplines? Find one…I DARE YOU.

I have stated in previous writings that I believe that networking theory and its many facets, including the study of Relationship Capital is the closest thing we have to understanding “life, the universe and everything” (oh…and by the way it’s the best way of determining the ROI of any network). Einstein referred to this elusive, almost asymptotic goal in mathematical terms as the Unified Field Theory, but to no avail. Could it be, though, that the study of networking mirrors the age old spiritual saying that “all paths lead to the truth”?

What does all of this mean?

For one thing, a paradox…no one is a networking expert, yet everyone is a networking expert…congratulations!

Secondly, networking touches upon just about every discipline that exists. Therefore, to fully grasp the totality of networking, one must be well versed in all studies – a true generalist. The major challenge is that each discipline approaches networking differently (a computer science person will look at networking differently than someone in communications or media).

Practical Considerations

No matter how far down the networking “rabbit hole” one chooses to traverse, no one can doubt how much the networking revolution is changing lives right now…no matter how theoretically academic or pragmatic you are about networking. Even to properly master networking as a jobseeker or business owner, the number of hats needed is considerable.

Certainly influence plays a large role…a recent report on CNN.com - Obama's health care message hard to control online” touched on how the Obama administration, noted for being well-versed in social media to win the now-famous Election of 2008, has been loosing its edge as of late (in this case the backdrop is U.S. healthcare reform). What I found were the following significant “nuggets” about online networking that I feel are relevant:

· “They're also wondering if it's possible for any one person -- no matter how powerful -- to control public dialogue on a medium like the Internet, where conversations are driven by millions of users instead of TV pundits and heads of state.”

· “All said Democrats have made a number of ‘online gaffes’ that have drawn attention away from their talking points. [David All, founder of TechRepublican.com] said there is "so much noise" in the health care debate online that the party's missteps are overshadowing its message.”

· “In trying to get their message across, administration officials have ‘just as good a shot as some 20-year-old college student from Chicago,’ [Mark Milian of the Los Angeles Times] said. ‘It's just they have more people behind that issue. They have a greater pull.’”

Again, no one’s an expert at networking, yet everyone is. Again, too, there are many hats needed to tackle an issue such as U.S. healthcare reform. From a networking standpoint, to gain any ground, and win this battle of wills and influence, the following skills are just a few needed:

1.) Communications

2.) Leadership

3.) Marketing

4.) Consensus-gathering

5.) Technical know-how of social media tools like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc.

6.) Team-building

7.) Vision forming/focus

8.) Diplomacy

9.) Attention to detail.

Again the implications of this are considerable.

As the internet continues to allow us to become more and more connected, we are being forced to do more and be more. We must be the CEO’s of Me, Inc. to develop our own brand and manage our careers, we must also be the ambassadors of the Country of Me – each of these job positions has a wide range of skills to master. Once more a paradox reveals itself…a country as well as a corporation requires a team of individuals united under a common purpose with varying complimentary skills to accomplish mutually-benefiting goals.

Pushing the Envelope

Just like Michaelangelo gazed upon a block of marble in 1501, saw his now famous statue of David within and used his artisans tools to reveal the image inside it, so we are revealing the human organism of mankind with tools like the internet from the marble block we call “networking”. Each step we take in understanding further – each technological advance we make reveals just how closely connected we all are.

Being closely connected has implications of its own:

1.) Hurting another means hurting us all

2.) Competition is not as effective as cooperation

3.) Major decisions must be made with sustainability in mind

4.) No one wins unless everyone wins

5.) Communication is key to making sure everyone works properly together and understands their purpose.

As one analyzes any effective network (country, corporation, networking group) you will notice that the above characteristics are prevalent. Shouldn’t, then, this also mean that any dysfunctional or seemingly divided network indicate a lack of such characteristics?

If so, understanding networking and the current networking revolution we are part of more than we already do today increases awareness and allows us to better correct such systemic issues for better results. I believe in time, raising networking awareness can eventually put an end to violence, poverty and hunger. Isn’t it time to put such things behind us?

Why?

Because we can.
