2011 Forecast Alert - Revised and Refined - THE GLOBAL FUTURIST Dear Friends, Colleagues, TNNWC Members and Fellow Futurists: Much is happening very quickly. Signs of trends are fairly easy to recognize, and extrapolating these trends (subject to constant fine-tuning and to the vagaries of events which are unpredictable by today's best available science, i.e., typhoons, etcetera, science. When the rate of change accelerates, this makes the sport/game/science/art of prognostication more complex -- and requires much more frequent analysis to accommodate and increase in the number and volatility of variables. Preparing your personal, business and financial affairs for a hailstorm of successive rapid changes is quite a challenge. Here are some immediate hardships and opportunities directly ahead within the next 3 months to 12 months. This is not economic, tax, business, financial, investment, legal or health advice. It is merely a statement of the point of view of Douglas Castle (http://aboutdouglascastle.blogspot.com/) .

1. Tremendous increasing instability in the Middle East and Northern Africa, brought about through the revolution in open Social Media and citizen journalism. While the citizens and servants of various monarchies, dictatorships and despotic regimes are calling for increased administrative transparency, democratic government reforms and greater freedoms, these media-emboldened masses are not merely fighting in a world of ideas; they are in a massive power struggle -- extremist religious groups, fickle government military forces, and the escalating threat of chaos (instead of coalition) makes the outcome of these brush fire revolutions unclear. Several things are certain, though, with the perception of threats to the security of the Suez Canal and the Straits of Hormuz, on top of increasingly negative revelations about banks and financial institutions worldwide and rapid changes in the weather worldwide -- from record-breaking snowfalls, to flooding and the resurgence of such diseases as cholera.

2. Skyrocketing oil prices worldwide, especially in the United States. Expect oil at $120 - $160 per barrel before year-end, with gasoline at $5.00 gallon at the pumps. This will increase unemployment in all western economies, and increase profits for the major international oil companies.

3. ETFs and other investments in Southeast Asia, Brazil and India will outperform most if not all alternatives worldwide.

4. Prices of agricultural commodities will increase precariously worldwide, and to a slightly lesser, but significant degree in the United States. The disparity between household income and regular living expenses will drive many U.S and other citizens and servants worldwide into poverty, with all of its horrific side-effects.

5. There will be heavy lobbying in the United States for an expanded military budget, despite current rhetoric about troop withdrawals and scaling down the defense budget. In a panic response to fear of international instability and the never-ending "War On Terror" (there's an oxymoron!). The military budget will be increased, and significantly. Companies involved in "country rebuilding" (trained mercenaries with state-of-the-art weaponry, ready to be deployed to whatever troubled part of the world management dictates) will prosper - Hail Halliburton, Blackwater and their ilk. They will profit intensely while The U.S. and other governments nefariously convert national funds toward "subcontracting" fights -- this is indeed a crafty way for the government to camouflage tremendously increased government spending. Much of this will be at the expense of education and the public welfare. Your might find my most recent article in THE INTERNATIONALIST PAGE BLOG to be of considerable interest in relation to the above Alert. Additionally, on the horizon:

• In the United States, individual states will be testing their "right to declare bankruptcy" in the courts, in a tug-of-war with a very expensive and fiscally irresponsible government. This will not bode well for state workers or for the prices of municipal bonds;

• Social networking sites and platforms will increase their data-gathering, data-mining and data-selling efforts, revenues and control of the media, in general. They will be glorified (Facebook) and demonized (Facebook);

• Privacy will become a growing industry. Weapons sales (private sector, both legal and illegal) will increase worldwide. Online reputation management and protection will become a growing industry. Internet intelligence-gathering (web-scraping, aggregating) will be a growing industry. Alternative forms of agriculture using alternative forms of energy (non-fossil fuels) will become the subject of greater interest;

• Crowdfundings and micro-fundings (private) will increase dramatically in popularity;

• Radical climate change and extreme weather will continue to increase all agricultural commodity prices, and many of the insurance companies that provide various insurances against the risks associated with "bad growing seasons" and the like will be fighting to stay alive by disputing a plethora of claims from angry, injured insureds.

Please stock up on potable water -- it will be in decreasing supply. Some technological investment opportunities will emerge in the interest of curing a global drinking water shortage. Faithfully, Douglas Castle

TNNWC Website Undergoes Overhaul, Set for Mid-February Re-Launch

Sorting Through "Extreme News" From Left, Right and Center - A Crucial Skill-Builder At Trend-Spotting and for Strategic Planning.

Author's Note: Every entrepreneur, and every single emerging enterprise requires management, market research, marketing, publicity, branding and a constant re-evaluation of potential future trends. If you are so biased that you deliberately exclude (adversely select against) "radical" or "extremist" publications which don't conform to your pre-existing views, you will merely be recycling your own brand of stupidity -- some call this "the kindling of circular intelligence." Get outside the coffin of comfort and look at what extremist, activist and super-partisan organizations are up to.

The key is to be open to information which comes from any and all sources...to be able to detach yourself emotionally from the political or other agendas of their writers, publishers and promoters, and to gather intelligence which may be actionable.

Every leader, manager, marketing director, financial officer, planning officer, product or service developer must be as an objective Information Hound, to the greatest extent possible.

If you limit your total news intake, you limit your knowledge base, thinking, insight, intellectual growth, analytic ability and efficacy, and ability to survive and thrive. I can read the SPECTATOR, MOTHER JONES, THE CHRISTIAN SCIENCE MONITOR, BUZZFLASH BULLETIN and THE ROLLING STONE in one sitting. I can listen to NPR as well as a series of Sunday morning sermons, deluxe with sulfur and brimstone. I've watched Limbaugh and Bill Maher (but then again, I've also watched Dexter and Everyone Loves Raymond...)

When it comes to the necessary job of futurism, more information is always better. Learn to expose your yourself to more input, while trusting that your character and judgment will not be hurt in the process. In fact, this testing will get you more in tune with who you truly are -- and that is a wonderful thing. - DC

Dear Readers:

Some interesting headlines and brief articles from some of the more "extreme" news sources (actually, in many cases these are more appropriately called conjecture sources) may prove to be a fountain of some useful information. Understand that in every article, there is a grain of truth (an initiating spark, fear, or observation which inspired the writer) and a large element of propaganda. The trick is to separate the elements of truth from the surrounding rhetoric. One of the means of doing this is by rudimentary correlative analysis....for example, if two politically opposed groups speak of the same subject and make similar observations about its implications, you might have unearthed a piece of truth.

If two adversaries agree on a common problem or a common trend -- it is invariably one worth watching. Finding these areas of informational intersection is one of a true intelligence analyst or Global Futurist's most important skills. I'll admit that sometimes it is a bit of a stomach-turner to read through the accusations, recriminations, bigotry and hate-speak. But the gold which you will pan from this stream of compost is still gold.

This is a great skill, and a great exercise. Use this analysis tool often, and your abilities to see through the smoke to the spark will increase appreciably.

DOUGLAS CASTLE RANTS: Generation XX - Women Rising to Greater Power and Influence

Generation XX - Women Rising to Greater Power and Influence.

Dear Friends and Colleagues:

During the course of the next five years, I have forecast a growing propensity for collaborative entrepreneurship as a replacement for traditional corporate career paths, solopreneurship and the now-ineffective camouflage of non-working or "expendable" middle management. I speak about this frequently in THE GLOBAL FUTURIST and in THE INTERNATIONALIST PAGE.

What I had neglected to mention was that this transitional wave is going to become increasingly dominated by the feminine gender. Here are just several of the reasons why:

1. Women now read more than men and retain more of the essence of what they read;

2. Women, physiologically and psychologically are much more flexible, adaptable and adventurous than men;

3. Women are comprising an increasing percentage of the workforce, especially following the growing acceptance of the "Mr. Mom" and "Stay-At-Home-Dad" labor shift;

4. Women are more inclined to trust their instincts, intuition and to avoid rationalizing in matters of business;

5. An increasing number of women (presidential candidates, Supreme Court Justices, professionals and other high-achievers) are being seen as role models. It's not just Rachel Ray, or Oprah Winfrey, or Sarah Palin, or Hillary Rodham Clinton...it is a geometrically increasing number of exceptional women who are proving that women are not necessarily the exception (what a terrible sentence I've constructed);

6. Women are quite comfortable at working in cause-based groups, on projects, and on committees -- they are natural networkers and gracefully integrate socializing and conducting business. The founders of Mary Kay, Avon, and (the legendary) Tupperware were truly visionaries;

7. Women tend to be better planners and organizers than men. This is largely environmentally encultured, but might even be a genetic/ gender advantage;

8. Women have a greater facility for retaining a great deal of personal and detailed information, and they generally have a better ability to recall seemingly small but nonetheless critical nuances or words said offhandedly;

9. Women are accomplished users of non-verbal communication, and superior interpreters of body language...they read their quarry with greater accuracy than men;

10. Women enjoy the relationship-building aspects of selling, presenting and sharing. They are, generally speaking, more socially mobile than men;

11. Women bond through compassion, which leads to cooperation;

12. An increasing number of women have become trained and conversant in technological areas of expertise, infused with the quirky spirit of problem-solving and inventiveness;

13. Women tend to be better at multi-tasking, evaluation, moderation and budgeting (despite the prevalent and stereotypically-reinforced perception amongst males that women are manic spenders and are "foolish with money");

14. Women are more inclined to be vigilant and efficient utilizers of resources (including their female employees);

15. Women (with certain exceptions, of course) tend to identify with other women as an oppressed and underestimated group. This creates a magnetism and a subconscious connection among them which far surpasses the "business friendships" of traditionalist males;

16. Women who also happen to be Baby Boomers are possessed of a spirit of adventure and rebirth through career change that younger, less seasoned women cannot quite match.

The trajectory in female entrepreneurial ventures during the course of the next two or three years will tend to be more horizontal than that of their male predecessors and counterparts, but they will tend to be more persistent and consistent in their attentiveness and achievements. Once a foundation of examples through exemplars and a level of the expectation of success have been built during that timeframe, expect this curve to become more vertical. Women will not only rise to power and influence, but their access to affluence will become more direct and expedient.

As a member of the male gender, I would advise others similarly constructed to look at women not only as adventurous and enthusiastic consumers, but as entrepreneurs, business owners and thought leaders. A few examples of WTWF ("Women To Watch For") follow, as examplars. Bear in mind that these individuals have already achieved a great deal in their careers, but they are not even close to being at the peak of their rise.

These are three people to watch. But bear in mind, they are slightly ahead of a wave that is fast coming to shore. And as I have said before, when the tidal wave comes, you can either learn to surf or be crushed in its immensity and force.
