REVIEW OF LAST SURVEY

TNNW SURVEY #4 : SOCIAL AND BUSINESS NETWORKING (survey is now closed): THE RESULTS ARE IN!

The original survey question and link is set forth below:

“Which five top online social/business networks (please number them in order of effectiveness) have afforded you the most value/results?”

Please take a moment and fill out the survey form below. If it does not appear (because of incompatibility with your browser, a hypervigilant popup filter, or because of a deeply ingrained fear of rejection), just click on:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=Ej_2bGibSLyD6pawhColbqLA_3d_3d and the form will pop up and fill your computer screen instantly, like a movie closeup of Steven Segal, but in a more annoying fashion (assuming that this is possible).

If the preceding url is just too long for you, you can use this one instead and save an immeasurably insignificant amount of time: http://twitlik.com/TNNWSurveyNumber4 .

We value your feedback, and would appreciate if you took a few moments to respond to some questions. This survey will close on 11/20/2009. Once again... that nasty form popup link should be right under here...

IN BRIEF: There were 40 responses to this Survey #4 -- a relatively small number of responses due to the open-ended, written-formatted (as opposed to multiple choice) survey format. We strongly suggest you view the complete results by clicking here, but a synopsis of results findings and analysis follows:

BRIEF SUMMARY OF FINDINGS

1. The top two social media were Facebook and Linked In, with Twitter a close third.

2. In the vast majority of cases (greater than 85%), an individual who choose Linked In as his or her first choice choose Facebook as his or her second choice, and vice versa.

3. The individuals preferring Linked In generally chose it thematically because of the businesslike and focused nature of the platform. High signal-to-noise ratio.

4. The individuals preferring Facebook generally chose it thematically because of the focused nature of the platform, and its relationship -friendly (multimedia) and comprehensive, communicative nature. It is perceived as a mixed business and social medium, each of which aspects is perceived to enhance the other.

5. Facebook is perceived to offer greater value to its adherents than Linked In, which is narrower in communications options, and offers various tiers of service at varied fees. Facebook is the largest of these platforms, and is still growing at a faster rate than Linked In. Generally speaking, Facebook is far-better branded than Linked In, and it markets aggressively and in a "cooperative" manner with other platforms, which it does not treat as competitors, but as additional selling outlets.

6. The three most important platforms for an individual to have a presence on are Facebook, Linked In and Twitter. Organizations (companies selling services or products) are served better by Facebook and Linked In. Job seekers and consultants in search of branding and client acquisition are directed to Linked In as a high priority.

7. Twitter adherents invariably choose Twitter because of its ease of operation, its across-the-board accessibility through many user-friendly applications, its multipost capability and its ease of use.

8. Facebook, Linked In and Twitter are the dominant platforms in the business networking arena, with a grip on more than 90% of the marketplace. This last item was not derived from the results of this survey, but through supplemental research.

A NOTE ABOUT BIAS: Bear in mind that most of the responses were derived from respondents through Linked In, Facebook and Twitter. The other media and moderators which were approached with the survey, were significantly resistant to posting the actual survey than the top three. The reasons for this reluctance are the subject of conjecture, but one possible reason is that the platform operators and the moderators anticipated results which would minimize their significance and popularity.

POWER THOUGHT OF THE WEEK: Blueprints for 2010, Part 1

Power Thought of the Week with Patricia Parham, Ph.D.

Network Blueprints are an Antahkarana

An antahkarana is a giant web of connection. In networks, hearts connect. Every person on this planet is connected to every other by filigree threads. These are strengthened when you are the hub that connects people in your network. The bonds become stronger as the connections become more conscious and deliberate to you and to others in the network. Enterprise social networks have made these connections more explicit and visible to more people making our connections potentially more powerful. Turn that potential into reality!

A NOTE FROM THE CHAIRMAN: TNNW's Plans for 2010

OK...so it's now a brand new year and already I am getting tired of hearing about "resolutions". How about you? I just know that every professional or life coach is going to send me an email about "making sure all my resolutions become a reality" (with all due respect to those coaches out there - many of them are my friends, and one them is my own brother). I even saw a group of co-hosts of a morning show on TV talk about how they won't even make resolutions anymore because they know they won't be following them.

Isn't it a shame that an idea like a "resolution" has become such a joke? It's become synonymous with "something you tell people to look prestigious yet meaningless due to the convenience of a back door so you can gracefully back out". NO ONE TAKES RESOLUTIONS SERIOUSLY ANYMORE.

In a recent debate with TNNW's Vice Chairman and my blood-brother-in-arms, Douglas Castle (who, by the way, wrote an excellent article with his own predictions for the next 7 years called
Futurescape: The Next Seven Years on our daily RSS and email feed) he shared his concern that the term "networking", much like "resolution" has become so overused and meaningless. The ensuing debate inspired Douglas' article this month "Who are you and why are you here?" - THE NEED TO STATE YOUR MISSION.

Since I started THE NATIONAL NETWORKER NEWSLETTER nearly 5 years ago, I felt at that time that the word "networking" was overused and misunderstood, and set out to build a publication that would educate people as to what it really is and how it can be utilized in a number of ways. Of course the nature of our articles have expanded because as Douglas stated to me, "networking is only the beginning". I couldn't agree more.

Another area in which Douglas and I agree is that we will not be making any resolutions this year. Instead, we have made plans, and for those who know us well, we follow through on all of our plans and we make good on them.

This year as we approach our five year anniversary next month, expect to see more from THE NATIONAL NETWORKER COMPANIES, the world's first Global Internetworked Collaborative Business Community (GICBC). Expect to see more about our suite of proprietary services like
news releases and Buzzworks services, as well as several new ones. Expect to see new writers - we have four new ones this month. Expect to see our latest version of our tastelessly-named The National Newspicker, your link to the top news sources around the globe - available now at our website. Expect to see more of The BLUE TUESDAY Report, filled with additional intelligence including TNNW Surveys, Amazing Facts, Featured Company of the Week, Featured Deal of the Week, Most Memorable Quotes, Websites and Blogs to Explore and our BackTalk section where your voice is not only heard, but published as well. Lastly, expect to see an overhauled TNNW website, providing a much easier means of navigation to the articles you want to read, the information you want to see and the services we know you will come to rely upon.

We here at TNNW are real excited for what 2010 will bring and we hope you are too. Glad to have you with us!

All my best,

Adam
