A NOTE FROM THE CHAIRMAN: Don't Panic

DON'T PANIC

by Adam J. Kovitz

For those of you who are of the geek-minded persuasion, you may remember the phrase "Don't Panic" as the words written on the cover of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy from the book series of the same name by the late Douglas Adams.

Not only am I a fan of the book series and the very British humor and witticism of Adams but I really love the humor in just this particular two word expression, "Don't Panic".  It's a perfect play on human psychology as our minds do not "think in a vacuum", that is, when people tell us not to do something it is impossible to picture/comprehend the "not" or the "don't" part of the phrase and focus instead upon the rest of it.

It's about as effective as saying, "Don't think about pink elephants" or "Don't pay attention to the man behind the curtain".  Our first reactions to such expressions may be, "Panic about what?  What are you not telling me?" or "Why shouldn't I think about pink elephants?" or "What man behind the curtain?".

Long story short...while the speaker's intention may have been for their audience not do do something, they have actually encouraged the opposite.

With this in mind, I am using the expression "Don't panic" for those who have viewed our website today as you may notice things are a bit different...don't panic...this is called "progress".  Of course, it's a work in progress, and it's my hope that you won't panic as some of our staff (mainly Penny Ng, our new Chief Operating Officer, Douglas Castle and myself) have already done and will continue to do the panicking for you.

You see, over the past week we have upgraded so many of our old outdated systems to bring you the new TNNWC (The National Networker Companies).  We have spent many tireless hours, often working through the night (either out of sense of duty or that we just were up all night obsessing over it).  In summary, we are still in transition and will have the finished product to you over the next few weeks and we know you will love what you see.

By the time the dust has settled, the bottles of Pepto Bismol have been imbibed and our staff has stopped calling each other every four-letter word in the dictionary, our transformation from a newsletter to the world's first Global Interworked Cooperative Business Community (GICBC) will be complete.

Our new website will be an intelligent business tool that will empower entrepreneurs and emerging enterprises through our publications and informational products, unparalleled services and the ultimate global community.

Aren't you glad you're watching history in the making?

In the meantime...don't panic.

All my best,

Adam
