THE BOOM IN BOOMER NETWORKING: Life is Complicated

The Boom in Boomer Networking with Elaine Ingis

Life is complicated – WOW, what an understatement. Trying to find your way out of one complication usually leads you into another, at least that’s been my “M.O.”. But, undaunted, I keep trudging along. Subconsciously I must be a believer in the philosophy that it is always “harder to hit a moving target.” I keep moving.

I believe that everything I do I do well – some are just “weller” than others. On a “well” day I reach my goal 1-2-3. On a less “well” day it may take me 15-16-17, etc. The important thing is that I always manage to get to where I need to be. Although it’s been argued that I am a bit of a Pollyanna, I never thought I was anything but brilliant in my tenacity and drive.

W R O N G.

I took pride in figuring out everything on my own. Learning from my mistakes, many repeated under a different guise. My energy was high, my attitude was positive, my creativity was always questioning – I Was Exhausted! Why did I need to go it alone when I could have learned from others' experiences, tapped into others' resources, get input from others who may have been there, and had truly done that?

– Why didn’t I streamline and accelerate the process by simply networking, and leveraging the experience and knowledge of other human beings.

As you may know, I am the Founder of SrMeetUp! (our website address is http://www.SrMeetUp.com), an interactive social and business community for Baby Boomers Sixty Years Plus. I’ve had a commitment and passion toward this amazing populace long before it became obvious, that we, the Woodstock Generation, needed to re-direct and reunite – to come home – to be heard. New and improved! … yada, yada is great -- but there is nothing like the bonding of similar life experiences to build a neighborhood of recognizable icons and memories. I’ve come to realize that I didn’t have to reinvent the wheel to build a new vehicle (perhaps I should sell my formula to Chrysler and GM). I simply had to network.

I still have loads of energy, still a glass half full kinda gal, never at a loss for questions, but I have accomplished so much more by simply tapping into information and experiences from my new colleagues and, hopefully, new friends.

So, friends, I need a favor. Still getting my site up and running – should be launched by July - and would love your opinions and comments on what we’ve accomplished and perhaps where you’d like to see us go. Visit us at http://SrMeetUp.blogspot.com/ those of you who are certifiably Boomers or younger (we all have Boomers in our lives), and tell us what would you truly like to see. Your input is precious. Whether it is about design, concepts, features or anything else, we’d like to know about it. I am sure, in the future, that I will be able to reciprocate either through my website or as a network buddy – as a matter of fact, I look forward to that.

I've had the same experience. Life gets easier when you can network and get the help you need. It's so important with the tekkkie world we live in. I write about it in my memoir as a caregiver. I started thinking I could do it alone, and as Elaine realized.....big projects need many hands and some are even more qualified than we are. A perfect match to reduce stress and overwhelm.
