THE SLOGANATOR: A Few Choice Words

Have you created those few choice words that capture attention and compel your customer to want to know more? Your tagline or slogan doesn't just introduce you. It carries the huge responsibility of telling your prospects, customers and referral partners who you are, what you can do for them and most importantly, why they should buy or do business with you, so they need to make you stand out from the crowd in a big way and they need to do it quickly. Like the one … two punch or a prizefighter, you slogan needs to knock out the competition, leaving you standing alone to win the prize.

When someone tells you what they do, does it exit your brain as fast as you heard it, or linger like a tune that you can't get out of your head?

It is interesting that studies have repeatedly found that we remember 80-95% of what we see but less than 15% of what we hear. In the world of networking this is crucial because everyone is sharing what they do with everyone else, in the hope of making a new connection that will lead to a future client or referral. So you have to stand out above all the others to be remembered, which isn't always an easy task.

In networking situations, most people participate with the intention of selling and not buying. To be really successful and sell yourself, you must quickly grab their attention and establish yourself with a benefit statement which illustrates how you can help them. What's in it for them is what they will remember.

Since most people remember the visual as opposed to what they've heard, one of the easiest ways to be remembered is to combine your slogan or tagline with a prop or small gift that you can give away. I remember a gentleman who owned an attorney service that gave out nail files or emery boards everywhere he went. The tag line that was etched on the emery board was, when it comes to filing, we get the job done. I kept the emery board and it had his company website on the back. What a great way of putting a slogan and a prop or giveaway together. A great way to create shelf life isn't it?

Another great giveaway and slogan I recall was a woman in the cosmetics industry, who gave away custom made erasers in the shape of a compact that said, erase your fine lines without Botox. On the back she also had her website.

It is the little things that people remember. People love to receive gifts and if they are memorable, it will reinforce your brand and you.

If you want someone to remember you, why not go the extra mile and make your introduction an event rather than just an encounter. A few memorable words, combined with an action will differentiate you and brand your introduction in your prospects mind and possibly brand you as well.

Remember, a great slogan is one that not only conveys benefits but incorporates your personality and differentiates you from the crowd.
