Being There When It Counts with Rick Itzkowich
Turns out that one of my Twitter followers retweeted the post. For those of you who don’t know how I found out about the retweet, I have Twitter alerts set up to automatically scan all tweets that contain my Twitter name -- @stayingintouch.
I proceeded to thank her by sending a direct message via Twitter. FYI: It’s a good practice to respond to communications from people who engage you via the same social media channel. She responded back to me, and we now had a conversation going.
This interaction now led me to her website. I located her phone number and called her. We had a nice chat, and she mentioned that she had been following me for quite some time. She shared that she really enjoyed my QuoteActions tweets. This led to her asking me some questions about how QuoteActions works. We finished our conversation with my suggesting she check out our free trial offer. She’d then have a chance to see firsthand whether the automated web-based email "quotes + actions" system would be a good fit for her. She agreed that was a good idea.
A few weeks later she purchased a 1-year subscription to QuoteActions!
As you can see from the above example, we were building a professional relationship with each other without either of us knowing it. That’s the amazing power of Social Networking! You can seamlessly build relationships in the background. And eventually, one, some, or many of these relationships will move to the foreground -- and may lead to sales.
No activity by itself in Social Networking will lead to success. However when you aggregate all of the activities together, they become a very powerful force. Author, Malcolm Gladwell, thoroughly discusses this concept in his book, The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference.
In closing, was there any particular action that led to this sale? No. It was a combination of ALL my (and her) activities that caused this result. Had I (we) failed to perform any of the steps that I (we) took, this sale would not have happened. And yet, none of the steps in isolation would have created a sale.
What simple Social Networking action can you take today to start the dominoes in motion?
This Month’s QuoteAction is by Dr. Ivan Misner, who is the Founder and Chairman of BNI and a personal friend
“It took me 20 years to become an overnight success!”
Your action is to take the first (or next step) in a big project that you have been putting off doing.
Enjoy an Extraordinary Month!
