When a book receives a “Must Read” from BookReview.com I must admit it gets my attention… but normally not enough to cause me to go out and buy the book and read it. This week’s Business Highlight is one of those exceptions. Leslie Knight is a CEO Space member, Director of Forum Staff and forum instructor. Her skills are numerous, including strategic planning and chief Information/technology officer (CIO/CTO). After reading her book review, I believe you too will want to go out a purchase her book, “Navigating the I.T. Minefield.”
Congratulations, Leslie Knight, Knight Performance Management, LLC, on your rating “Must Read” from BookReview.com. It is a rating well deserved.

Navigating the I.T. Minefield: Straight Talk for the Small Enterprise
You know those small strips of sticky yellow paper that you’ve got stuck on your computer monitor, the ones that appear to be a flaky afterthought even while they contain your most valuable information? The password to your personal folder, which you’ve left unlabeled to fool office passers-by, the phone number to your troubleshooter and your I.T. vendor, and that drawing you did of a perfect isosceles triangle that nobody seems to understand why you’re so proud of. Imagine if all that important business information was collected into a small book and you’d have an approximation of what Leslie Knight has done with her new book, “Navigating the I.T. Minefield”.
Containing scores of information about informational technology vendors and how to keep track of important data, “Navigating the I.T. Minefield” does precisely what the title implies. Although the language can get a little complicated, Knight offers enough explanation for any small business owner to understand why her advice is so pivotal to small business production. Knight also offers an extremely handy evaluation form for uncovering your business’s trouble areas where it pertains to current technology.
Let’s face it. You can’t start a business today without having at least a rudimentary understanding of the internet, networking, and banking programs. This means that you also need to know about routers, protective software, and spreadsheets. Basically, you need a Bachelor’s in technology before you even think about starting that wicker furniture store. Fortunately, Knight’s book is oriented to helping you understand where the boundaries of your knowledge are, as it’s easy to get caught up in the things you don’t need to know (like HTML and the latest version of Tetris) when trying to uncover exactly what you do need.“Navigating the I.T. Minefield” keeps you on-track, assessing your password and security needs as well as showing you how to back up important data and who to turn to when things get messy.
They have done a remarkable job in packaging a small, handy book full of short and quick fistfuls of information laid out with thick margins for scribbling out the various links and notes about web site and I.T. vendors. You’ll want to read it more than once, tear out the important pages and tape them to your computer monitor. Leslie Knight hasn’t created a work of art, meant to be left in pristine condition on your shelf, but a workhorse of information, eager to be cascaded in coffee stained notes, circled and highlighted to the reader’s content, and worked into your company’s burgeoning library of manuals.
