Miss us?
It's been 2 weeks since I've written to you - the longest break we've ever taken in the nearly 4 years this publication got started. It feels good to be back.
I was fortunate enough in my time away to go on vacation to Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown, three Virginia cities that make up the "historical triangle". What I find of major interest in things "historical" is the link that they have to networking. And while they didn't call it networking back then, you see signs and hear tales of if everywhere.
Jamestown, VA - a network of English settlers are commissioned to establish the first permanent English Colony in the New World. To survive, notable figures like Captain John Smith had to network with the "Indians" (Native Americans) for corn and other crops to survive.
Williamsburg, VA - From 1699 through 1780 this was the Capital of Virginia. The Governor, the local representative of the King of England and emissary to the Empire (network), ruled over the vast networks of commerce and trade. In time more subversive networks of individuals like Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry and George Washington would take issue with "taxation without representation" and begin a Revolution that would turn a colony into a new Country.
Yorktown, VA - The last stand off between the English and the Continental armies (networks) faced each other in what would lead to the eventual surrender by General Cornwalis and negotiation of terms at the Moore House.
When we think about how networking is infused in everything we do, it's no wonder that networking is the way of the future...it's been the way of the past and present as well! What's even more fascinating to me is that it can be used for a variety of purposes from getting a referral or job, revolting against tyranny or changing the way people think about the world.
Speaking of change and revolution, for those who have been snooping around our blogs lately might take note that we have been expanding. Those keen TNNW insiders are continuing to get regular content despite our vacation schedules through our RSS feed and widget available at http://thenationalnetworkerweblog.blogspot.com. They are also noticing that we are getting ready to launch a TNNW membership which will serve as a gateway to high-quality and reasonably-priced services based upon the networks we've leveraged. Let's just say that we just can't wait for 2009!
As always, I look forward to networking with you...
- Adam
