This Week in TNNW

Mid-Atlantic: Get Connected 24/7 By PAUL MORRIS
I just learned of a newly launched networking organization, Your 24-7 Network. You communicate with others through your computer either at work, home or traveling. I’ll explain a little more.

Southern Plains: Downtown Networking. By PETER BIADASZ
In all cities, the greatest concentration of business is downtown. It makes sense that you would find successful networking groups in this busiest of business districts. With that in mind, let me introduce you to The Downtown Business Network located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. At one time Oklahoma was home to cowboys, Indians and the great dustbowl of John Steinbeck. Today Oklahoma is a modern, vibrant state with a strong aerospace industry, well matured energy companies, and of course, nationally recognized college football. Within this context we find business networking at it’s finest.

Entrepreneurial: Interview with Elayna Alexandra. By *LOUISE FLODIN
A mixed media artist, illustrator, graphic/web designer and art instructor Elayna Alexandra, enjoys the versatility of art. She believes that art is a powerful vessel for communication, self knowledge, healing and much more, and that this expression of creativity should be a part of every day life. After twenty-two plus surgeries for her disability, pseudarthrosis, she knows that finding a voice, which she has found through art, and using it is part of what makes our lives valuable and important.

Financial: Collaboration. By MEIRA FINDEL
I always enjoy finding people in the Financial Services industry that take a holistic approach to helping people find peace, harmony and balance with their money.

Through my networking on LinkedIn I met a very ambitious young man, Jonah Grunfeld. We met at my home office to get to know each other and see how we could refer clients to one another.

Minority-Based: Make a Difference. By MARIA ELENA DURON
This weekend the Business and Professional Women of Texas host their State Conference highlighting their theme “Make A Difference”. Talk about a diversity of individuals at a conference – from those retired, to those young up-and-coming careerists, from moms to singles, to those who own their business to those who work with great bosses and challenging ones and yes – even a few men.

Sports: NFL Coaches Weekend. By SCOTT MANTHORNE
18 NFL Coaches - 54 Executives - 3 days. This is a situation most of us would only dream of. But in the very near future, this gathering will take place for a few lucky business executives. An ultra-exclusive business networking opportunity, those in attendance will meet with the NFL Coaches in a meeting environment, leaving the field behind.

Technology: Tips and tricks for Webinars - Getting Ready. by MIKE O'NEIL
For over a year we have been teaching business professionals how to use LinkedIn for business, for recruiting and for finding a job. People would come from about 20 or 30 miles away and that was it. We needed a solution that would expand our audience. Solution #1 – we now hold them regionally (and soon nationally). Solution #2 - do them on the Internet.

Creativity in Networking. By HARVEY MATHASON
In the Shawshank Redemption Tim Robbins said to Morgan Freeman "You have to get busy living or busy dying." A similar theme surfaced during a teleconference I recently attended on Learning How to Learn: "Life Long Learning – the Antidote to Slow Death" by Patricia Parnham, a Ph.D. Psychologist. On the continuum of learning, Buckminster Fuller says "You and I are essential functions of the universe. We are exquisite anti-entropy."

The best way to make great contacts at any event you attend is to be prepared. There is an art to getting ready...Really.I divide them into three main subheadings: Physical Readiness, Personality Readiness and Know-How Readiness (next issue).

Power Thought of the Week. By PATRICIA PARHAM, Ph.D.
Extrapolate Competitors’ Next Offerings

When your competitors offer services or benefits that exceed yours, it’s not enough to try to match them, forever be playing “catch up.” Extrapolate what their next logical move might be and incorporate that upgrade into your service and product offerings. If you’re friendly rivals, it may spur you both on to greater heights. Leap frog your way into a more powerful market position and stay on the cutting edge.
