Influenced by his work as a venture capitalist as much as the tech habits and needs of his children Michael Eisenberg comments, “Teenagers already want their web more visual and they will hit the workforce soon. Startups will move to provide more visual interaction and communication. I see it coming already. They will demand integration and with the fickleness of this generation, they will find their way to open and integrate data and sites. They don’t call it data. It is their digital life. They don’t want to hear that it is locked in a windows file folder or that they can’t move it...”

Lyro.com Launches Business Card 2.0

I received the following from Workface LLC concerning Lyro.com... I'll be doing further research here, and would love any feedback from our readers, as would the folkes at Lyro.com . - Wdk

Lyro.com Launches Business Card 2.0
New digital business card directory helps users brand themselves

Release date: March 29, 2007
Minneapolis, MN - We're introducing Lyro – the business card 2.0. You are part of a select group of blog owner/publishers that we are inviting to take an early “sneak peek” at lyro. We see your blog as a major delivery vehicle for news and information and hope you'll have a willingness to cover our launch (good or bad).

Today, most of us use email and the internet to connect with others and maintain effective business relationships. While a large amount of searchable data on people already exists on the internet, this information is not always well organized, easily locatable, user friendly, or under individual control in terms of what’s displayed and how. It remains difficult to get your hands on the necessary business contact information you need to grow your business, or to help you get more leads and close more deals.

Lyro makes it faster and easier for potential customers, business partners, colleagues and acquaintances to search, find, and safely & securely contact each other. Unlike other existing contact management and networking sites, Lyro allows basic business contact information – name, company, job title, address, phone number, and business URL (but not email addresses) – to be freely searched and exchanged over the Web. It also empowers people to control how that data is displayed. LyroMail (our anonymous messaging system) allows users direct contact with each oth! er witho ut disclosing email addresses. "We believe it is the right of individuals to have a say in protecting their privacy while also being able to enjoy the fruits of freely promoting themselves and their business," said Audie Dunham, leader of the lyro team.

Lyro is quickly gaining momentum in business circles. “With Lyro, I can get basic information about me out on the Web faster and easier than ever before. People can find me and make direct contact with me without the hassle of going through layers of their network or relying on information from second and third hand sources. Yet, my email address can remain as secure as I choose to make it.” said lyro user Chris Toal, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Amplifon USA / Miracle-Ear®.

"We aspire to become the world's largest repository of digital business cards – where everybody who’s anybody can be found if they so choose," said Dunham. Lyro is intended to help business people to more effectively brand themselves on the web.

###

About lyro

Speed Dating plus Minor League Baseball equals One Sweet Match

Another one for those who like their networking and sports combined! From Westborough, MA -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/09/2007

It's spring at last! “If in the spring a man's fancy turns to love and baseball, why not combine the two?” thought Paula Pogorzelski, A Match Made in 7’s Director. The concept began to take shape after she met staff of the Worcester (MA) Tornadoes last fall at a business expo. Over the winter, she worked to adapt the usual speed dating format to the structure of baseball games to produce a unique type of singles event that is part entertainment, part recreation, part adventure and pure fun.

For those of you who follow Scott Manthorne's Sports Networking page...
From Ithaca office of Media Relations...

News Releases » 2007 » April

04/09/2007
ITHACA, NY—A talk by Women’s Sports Foundation chief executive officer Donna Lopiano, a golf tournament and an awards ceremony will all be held as part of a weekend networking event organized by students in the Department of Sport Management and Media at Ithaca College. Lopiano’s presentation, which is free and open to the public, will be held on Friday, April 20, at 4 p.m. in Textor 101.
Lopiano was recently named one of the “10 most powerful women in sports” by Fox Sports, while “The Sporting News” listed her as one of the “100 most influential people in sports.” As a student-athlete, Lopiano participated in 26 national championships in four sports and was a nine-time All-American in softball. She has been a college coach of men’s and women’s volleyball, women’s basketball, and softball and she served for 17 years as director of women’s athletics at the University of Texas.
The focus of the Women’s Sports Foundation is on empowering girls and women through mentorship, leadership and engagement not just in sport but in their communities as well. Ithaca College graduate Tuti Scott ’84, chief external affairs officer for the foundation, will join Lopiano to speak about strategic career planning for women aspiring to pursue careers in the sport industry.
The Sport Event and Networking Club (SENC)—an organization of students majoring in sport management and media in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance—is sponsoring Lopiano’s talk as part of its Fourth Annual Hole-In-One Weekend. The program provides the students with opportunities to network with professionals as well as to gain firsthand experience in event management, sponsorship coordination, sport publications, sales, advertising and promotions.
A number of alumni and other professionals will be participating in the awards ceremony. Lopiano will be presented with the Distinguished Sports Industry Leader Award, while Scott will be honored with the Sports Industry Professionals Founder Award. Others being recognized include Michael Perman ’96, director of international programming for the NBA; Jon Rothstein ’04, anchor for 1050 ESPN Sports Radio in New York City; John Brunner ’01, assistant director of athletic game operations for the University of North Carolina; and Clive Russell, director of sponsorship, sales and broadcast rights for Major League Baseball in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and a faculty member at the Ithaca College London Center.
The golf tournament will be taking place on Saturday, April 21, at the Hillendale Golf Course on North Applegate Road in Ithaca. The tournament promotes a sense of camaraderie while also giving students a chance to network with successful graduates in the sport management and media field.
