There is a new reality TV show in Baltimore. They are focused on getting a message out to all residents: “If you are not part of the solution, you are most likely part of the problem!” Their goal is cultural sustainability: to teach and encourage members of their community to believe in themselves and to commit to a methodical process for large scale improvement within their neighborhoods. They are out to show the community that they (the members of the community) can make a difference… but to do so, it takes commitment.
The concept behind the Good Fellas has been driven by the vision of A.J. Ali who asked himself the question: “What can we do to help those who are less fortunate than us?” 6 other “good fellas” have join him with his vision and as a result of determining how to approach answering this question they have developed a twofold project: First, to complete a project to help a different family or charity each week in the Baltimore area and to have the community to join in their efforts. Second, from their efforts, they are producing a weekly TV program to share their experiences with the hopes that more people would step up and cooperatively join in their efforts to rebuild Baltimore.
With the new reality program being driven by this group of 7 local entrepreneurs who each have a heart of gold, the face of Baltimore is beginning to change. This small troop of men is setting an example of how the community can come together to change Baltimore… not just the image but from the core values of caring for one another, caring like family. The group is officially known as the Good Fellas of Baltimore and they are cultivating support through their MOB (Mentors of Baltimore): people who wish to be part of the solution, a fan club for social responsibility, people of action.
The Saturday, March 26, 2011 debut of the program concentrated on a project that the 7 mentors took on with their own sweat equity and monetary resources. They took it upon themselves to assist a family who had been burnt out of their home. It was winter; the family had no resources to rebuild or to even be able to relocate. With the efforts of the Good Fellas of Baltimore this family is now back in their rebuilt home.
Though the weekly program airs on a local Baltimore Channel 45, anyone outside of the local viewing area can view the programs via the internet. The URL is www.goodfellastv.com
Their dream is to have others who care join their MOB and donate a gift of $145 annually toward their project. For this gift you will receive a thank you of a choice of t-shirt, hat, water bottle or coffee mug containing the Good Fellas of Baltimore logo. You will also receive invitations to members-only events with the Good Fellas cast, discounts to events taped for the show, discounts form GFB retail partners along with powerful business networking. Members will also earn points for their volunteer hours that they can redeem for prizes.
