Will Laptops go the way of the 8 Track Tape Player
As Touch Pad computers are Birthed?
As Touch Pad computers are Birthed?
Recently I had a great conversation with Bill Winkler of ESW Enterprises Inc., evangelist for helping companies find the right business technology solutions…and the use of technology as a whole. I have found that this gentleman works diligently to stay on the forefront of new technology. I found that as I interviewed Bill he would much prefer that the focus be on helping others understand today’s technology solutions rather than focusing on him. He believes that if he can help others with their technology solutions you will know you will know his heart… to help others. The following article is a result of this conversation.
The maze of mobile gadgets has provided a meltdown of information in the world of mobile computing for end users as of late. Social Media is now starting to make an enormous impact on sales, marketing and business development plans that are forward thinking. The clarity as to which direction the market is going is clear but how it is getting there in a virtual space of the internet is far from complete. For a number of years now Mr. Winkler has been saying that the laptop is a very bad investment and now more than ever he tells his clients to stop buying gadgets that will not work next year, or at least, be obsolete in the near future.
Mr. Winkler believes that once Apple released the I phone and the I pad the mobility revolution began to quickly change direction. Other companies quickly, within a year, followed up with their gadget of choice. Also consider that your TV programming is going to be on the internet as the next wave of ‘New” technology. While internet TV is not a new concept, the devices that are needed to do presentations are evolving at a blazing pace and are continually evolving.
Impact to Enterprise Technology Consumers
Enterprise customers no longer have to deal with the painfully expensive cost and administrative burden of supporting portable laptop equipment. End user support issues now can be taken care of remotely just as long as an internet connection is available that includes WI-Fi at Starbucks or similar internet cafés. Yes that includes cell phones with Blackberry as a great example for remote administration to all devices. Your desktop can be as simple as an icon that you click on to login to your work space. All of your computing tools are now available 24/7.
Security is as good as it has ever been for remote desktops that can now be hosted in the virtual cloud. It is now possible to pull up your work desktop anywhere at any time without making additional hardware purchases. If in fact you spill a cup of coffee on your laptop and render it unusable you can go to another desktop and login to your work network and not lose a single file.
Recent research is now available to support Mr. Winkler’s claim that the laptop is now dead. Out of the dozens of information friendly gadgets now the market I have found that only a few really have it in “friendly” mode. Here is why!!
- Apple released the iphone and the ipad to start the revolution of information sharing while being totally independent of wires and cables. One size fits most but not all when addressing corporate America and does not seem to be choice number one. The world is on windows and with anything that is not windows has integration issues. If the product is for personal use then it is great but not the best when it comes to hardware. Tech Details here.........
- Blackberry has there vintage Playbook. According to tech details and video test that performs better than the ipad in most areas. If it was not for the 7 inch screen size I would buy it tomorrow because it would be seamless to adapt to the work environment. Combine the Playbook with a tether option from your phone carrier and it is the perfect match to true information mobility. Full details here.........
- Motorola Xoom is also a very good contender for the laptop replacement race. This device is one that I could not find anything but the 7 inch screen to be a drawback. Truly a very practical portable computing solution that included external wireless keyboard option.........slick and all in one carrying case. This one is well worth waiting for if the 7 inch screen size is not an issue for your computing style. It is best of class so far...........from a manufacturer that you can trust. Full details here.........
- Samsung Galaxy tablet rates well with the best with one important feature the others do not have and that it is a phone as well. All in one device for all communication needs. Absolute winner!!!!!!! One monthly cost for everything...........priceless. Compare and see.......
If you “resonate” with the content of this article, then Bill just may be your connection to assist you with your technology future. Give him a call. He’d love to talk with you.
