BLUE THING #5: Featured Company of the Week

Growing Your Business with the Guidance of a Certified Business Coach

Growing a business has always been a difficult task. Today’s environment has made that task even tougher. Too many try to strike out on their own without the adequate understanding of what it takes to grow a successful business. Hence, we find a very high rate of business failure each year. To be wise enough to recognize the need for a business advisor/consultant is a first step in supporting the greater possibility of success. Yet, also having the wisdom to recognize that all business coaches do not come with the same ability to guide you to your desired goals is critical. Knowing what to look for as you interview business coaches is an immense key to this process. The benefits you receive and the success you experience will be greatly dependent upon the individual you choose to guide you, so don’t take this process lightly.

A business consultant in today’s environment needs to offer their clients the widest range of services possible. The individual needs to have a vast enough background that they can identify with their client’s needs and be in touch with the existing business conditions to be able to give sound advice for direction. Bottom line: You want to know that they “have been there and done that” and that you feel comfortable with their manner and personality. After all, if you are going to glean from their services you will first need to build a trusting relationship.

In this week’s Company of the Week we are highlighting not only the person but the background, the process the person has passed through in preparing for the position of “business coach”. If you are in a position where you know that you need guidance, we would trust that this article will give you a greater understanding of making that determination.

While attending Boston University, School of Management Kevin Marshall started his first business as a local disc jockey. This led him to becoming VP of Operations for the L. Greg Smith Company, an entertainment management, promotions, sound systems & mobile DJ company. He then took what seemingly was a divergent path when he served as a police officer for 5 years before reentering the business world. To some, you may overlook this 5 years as not being an important part of his credentials, but to one who understands the nature of police work you would quickly see the value of this time spent as a public servant. To be a successful police officer you must develop people skills. For Kevin, this transferred as he left police work to become the marketing manager for Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey working specifically with government and national accounts. Again, to be successful in management you must develop strong people skills.

Kevin’s skills continued to lead him to greater positions. He spent the next 19 years working through the corporate structure of Verizon Wireless where he began in sales, then sales operations, director of customer service and retail store manager. As you would consider someone such as Kevin as a business coach you would want to evaluate what he accomplished during this period and evaluate the skills he had to develop to be able to continue to grow professionally.

Kevin’s next decisions are critical in positioning him as a superior business coach. Kevin was experiencing back problems and needed to take a leave of absence to have a specialized back operation. It was during his time of recovery that he decided not to just lie around while he healed but to seek further training. This speaks highly of his level of motivation for personal development.

Since he was in a position to consider a career change, Kevin used his down time to become a certified life coach as well as a certified Small Business & Entrepreneurship Trainer. It was with this specialized training that he left corporate America and returned to serve the small business community.

Since 2008, Kevin has made it his goal to be the most excellent business coach he could possibly become. His goal is to assist entrepreneurs and small business owners become highly successful rather than being part of the overwhelm group who end up failing in business for lack of knowledge and intestinal fortitude to see it through when times get tough. He is dedicated to helping our country get back on the road to being a thriving nation by building entrepreneurial endeavors and small businesses one at a time.

Kevin Marshall, a certified small business/entrepreneur trainer, coach and owner of a company know as Hi Impact out of Clinton, MD, decided to take a quantum leap with his business and invest in an entrepreneurial/ business to business education that he believed would open a new dimension to his long list of credentials. Less than two weeks ago, Kevin returned from a week long business to business owner forum where he was not only able to expand his own business knowledge; but he also added to his ever growing list of high end business resources and contracts through building face to face relationships. With a lifetime membership in CEO Space, Kevin will continue to build his expertise along with his international resource base that proves to be invaluable. When working with his clients he can introduce them to their needed resources and guide them while building their business team.

Another important element that Kevin has added to his vast background in this life time membership is to have unlimited resources that he knows can assist undercapitalized business owners. He can now assist small business owners and entrepreneurs build business plans that will attract investors and give them opportunity to present to the investors. He now has the resources to guide individuals step by step through a detailed process rather than giving them general advice. He can introduce his clients to new approaches in growing business. He can assist his clients to seek greater aspirations for their businesses, opening them to the mindsets and skill sets of the most successful and wealthy.

To summarize, Kevin is a great example of the type of business coach that so many small business people are seeking. He has a proven track record not just as an independent business person but also in the structured corporate environment. He has the ability to not only give general advice but give specific guidance in the sequencing of business growth. He can introduce you to all the needed resources which include attorneys for IP work and compliance, branding experts, marketing and sales experts. He can help you determine if you are the best CEO for your business, where and when you need to bring on a chief operations officer and chief financial officer. He understands the inner workings of what is necessary to build a successful business team that will ultimately lead you to a highly successful business.
