BLUE THING #10: LINGOVATION OF THE WEEK. JA!
Dear Friends:
As you may or may not know, a Lingovation is a newly-created, freshly-coined word, often comprised of a hybrid or contraction of several existing words, which comes into being when no other single existing word or word combination (and sometimes not even an entire paragraph!) can precisely express the thought. They are not nonsensical terms, and must indeed be taken very seriously.
CRAPPLICATION – This lingovated noun (representing the long-overdue but always-anticipated marriage of “crap” and “application”) can be used to characterize the object, device or ultimate end-product of any new and widely-heralded release of any promising new technology which meets any combination of the following criteria:
- No one is actually certain what function it actually does perform, or if it performs any function at all;
- When integrated with, or when used in the proximity of, any of your other existing and dependable technology that is critical to your social life or career, (especially a technology on which a great deal of data is stored and has been categorized in a very special way over a long period of time), the new device causes the older technology to fail, usually irreversibly, with a calamitous major loss of irreplaceable data);
- It is sleek, bright, shiny (perhaps even playing a catchy techno-pop theme song when you press the hard-to-locate button to turn it on), and very delicate…so much so that as soon as you pick it up to put it in its special ergonomically-designed microfiber carrying holster, it slips from your hands, falls onto the floor, and cannot ever be turned on again. It comes with a warranty which covers virtually every contingency except breakage or mechanical failure.
p.s. If after reading the LINGOVATION above, you have some idea of your very own for a new LINGOVATION, simply press on the button which follows (it says "Submit My Original Lingovation") to submit your new word and its definition, and we will make you famous...well, perhaps just somewhat famous. We will get your Lingovation a very high ranking on all of the search engines -- that much is assured!
